air bags or coils with dropped spindles?

ok, heres what i want to accomplish.
an awesome ride hight for a daily summer driver.. =cheap costs.
i already did the no-no of cutting my coil springs.. but i couldnt afford much better, but now im thinking maybe i should go down the proper road, as i was to lower it another 2 1/2", to make the top of the tire at the bottom of the fender. now, i dont know whether i want to buy some air bags (hook them up to valve stems to be later hooked to a compressor down the road), or some drop spindles. im looking for the best, cheapest way to get results... (if possible) thanx for your help!!! -kyle

I would put bags in. reason for them is. When you park at a show you can drop your truck low. Plus you get that riding on air feel. That is what I am wanting to do to my truck.

Coils are the cheapest way to get a static drop. Spindles are better because they don't effect the ride but cost a little more. Bags will offer you adjustability in your height.

My suggestion would be to buy the spindles now, and add bags later when you can afford a complete set up...

uhhmmm ... you're gonna need more than just the bags ... tank ... brackets ... valves ... compressor ... air line ...

the bags is one of the least expensive components in a "bag" system.

well, for now, all im hooking up is 2 bags in the front. there is some line that came with them, more than long enough attached to some valve stems. so, therefore, all i have to fabricate or buy is some bracket/adaptors to put in place of my coil springs. this should work right??

Ok, so your going to do this on the cheap. Go to www.***************** and buy two bag plates, and two bag cups. This will give you what you need to remove your coil springs and have the start of a system.

Make sure you route your line away from anything that will rub a hole, or melt the line.

Just remember "cheap" and "safe" don't always go together. Anytime I do suspension, steering or brakes - I hesitate to put those 2 words in the same sentence. JMHO.

i've took everything into consideration, and decided to go with some drop coils, the truck sits about 2" lower than in the first picture at the top of the page, im pretty happy with the results.. except, the rear needs to come down. i attached some pictures of the way it sits now. i put a 5" drop lowering kit on it (shackles and hangers)... i shoulda put a flip kit in... to lower i think im gonna make some brakets to put those air bags in, and run just a mono leaf spring.. and of course notch the frame. then i can adjust the hight, and make er what i want it to be.. correct?

Here's my $.02. Spend the money now and do the spindles. You're going to want them later anyway. You can get a good set for about $250. Check McGaughy's or Belltech. As said, you can run bags, but you're gonna need upper plates, bags, lower cups, fittings to go into the bags and some line and you can run the line into 2 schrader valves to fill when you need to and then you can get a portable air tank to fill them, but realize that the front end is heavy and it takes a lot of psi to fill them up. On my '67 it takes 100psi in my tanks to raise the front end. On a portable 3 gallon tank you may or may not be able to get enough air in their to fill the bags 1 time. Forget about filling it twice. And if you have any kind of leak at all and all you have is that portable tank, you're gonna be screwed and will be left stranded. And that sucks! Good luck, but I'd go static for now, whatever you decide to do, don't skimp out on suspension/chassis components. It's yours and everyone else on the road around you's safety at risk. Keep that in mind.
