About to buy my first Burb, anything I should check out?
Hi all,
I just bought an airstream trailer from a woman who's husband passed away about a year ago. She also is selling the 1989 454 3/4 ton suburban that was used to tow it and she really wants to keep the trailer and tow vehicle together so she's really pushing me to buy it. Its got 86,000 miles, she's an original owner, and based on the condition of the trailer, they took really good care of their things. Also has one of those Eide automatic boat loaders on top of it. Anyway, she knows nothing about the suburban but she has periodically started it up and drove it around the block. She also took it in for service periodically and basically did what the shop said but she doesn't know what they did or have the receipts. So, anything in particular I should look for in this suburban prior to closing the deal? I don't know what the diff gearing is but I do know there shouldn't be a problem pulling the trailer. It seems to drive very smooth and there are a few minor things that need fixing (wiper motor, electric window on one door, etc.) From other posts here I can tell my gas mileage won't be too high, but that's expected with the 454. But are there any particular weak points on the 1989s? Any tips would be appreciated as I really don't know much about these and haven't really found any information on the internet except this board. Thanks, Tony |

well all i can say is i have a 89 2wd and just look out for rust, mine is rotted up in the rear wheel wells and the barn doors are gone all along the bottom, and the rockers were rusted right through, what does she want for the burb?
