Shocks and 2WD

I had some real old shocks on my 2wd 79 blazer and then one day all of a sudden one of the front ones went completly limp, and so I got new Gabriel Ultras on the front only, and it handled better and Stopped WAY better. Before it was like driving on snow, it skidded really easy. But there is still a lot of bounce in the front and Dribbling. (The front tires bounce after every bump, hole, railroad track.) Looking at the 2wd front end you see the shocks have quite a disadvantage. They are mounded halfway between the ball joint and the bushings, and they are at an angle. What can you do to improve it? Would Bilsteins have been better significantly?

Do you still have the original springs in your truck? If you do, chances are they are worn out and need to be replaced.

Re: Shocks and 2WD

Yes I do. They seem very stiff. I was thinking only soft springs wear. Sagging?

Re: Shocks and 2WD

There is a front shock relocator kit available (I had never heard of it until I found a set on ebay, but I didn't buy them) that does the same thing as the rear locator. It adjusts the angle of the shock to be more vertical for best performance.

Re: Shocks and 2WD

Thanks, I tried searching that, but didn't find anything, any other keywords?

Ebay link : Front Shock Relocators

Again, I didn't know these even existed until I found them in a random 67-72 search.

Re: Shocks and 2WD

I don't think you need relocators up front. I think your problem is the springs.
