15" Wheel Suggestions

I am getting ready to replace the wheels on my 85 swb, Black Chevy Truck. I want a 15x8 to fit my existing 275/60 BFG's. I like the look of 17" and bigger wheels, but I just don't want to spend the money and I couldn't imagine how bad it would ride with big wheels and short sidewall tires. It rides bad enough as it is.

Anyway, you can see pics of my truck (and my other toys, if you're interested) here http://community.webshots.com/user/cgrossl . I was thinking of a bullet hole sytle wheel, with the big holes, but I have seen some five spoke style wheels that look good too. Anyone else have any suggestions? As always, pictures are worth a thousand words.

Re: 15" Wheel Suggestions

Hopsters or Torque Thrust II's will be your best bet.

Re: 15" Wheel Suggestions

I've always like the Mickey Thompson Classic II wheels. They are pretty cheap at 100 bucks for a 15x8 aluminum wheel.

Re: 15" Wheel Suggestions

Hallabrand (or maybe its hallibrand?) wheels with knockoffs.

You can actually fit a 15x10 in the wheel wells pretty easily and maybe even run a 305's or better. I was running 275's all around till I lowered my truck and then had to switch to 255's up front because they rubbed like no other... Consider a staggered setup? 15x8 upfront and 15x10 out back maybe?

Re: 15" Wheel Suggestions

I can understand you not wanting to spend money on 17's when you have good tires. Don't make that decision on based on the misconception that 17's will give you a bad ride. I have had trucks with 15's, 17's, 18's, and 20's. The size of the wheel has nothing to do with the ride. It's the profile of the tire that matters. Add a set of 17's with a 45 series tire and your ride will be just fine....

Re: 15" Wheel Suggestions

N2Trux,

Are those Torque thrust 2 wheels on your truck? Does anyone know of a good source to purchase these wheels? What is the width of the rims and what tires are you running? Thats an awesome looking setup. And one more thing, What drop is that??

Re: 15" Wheel Suggestions

Don't forget about the old school cragers, I love em.

For about 475 or so you can get 4 wheels, lugs, washers, center caps, and valves, shipped to your door from summit. or jegs.

Sorry for it now being a truck but theese are on my ss.

I know there's plenty of chevy trucks with cragers on them and some members here have them and have pics.

CN84C10-
That's not my truck. That belongs to forum member ocbaud. If I remember correctly it's a 5/7 drop. I'll have to dig deeper in my memory for the tire size.
Here's one more with 17's. This one has Cragar SS wheels and it belongs to Odie82-

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I should have known Scoti would remember. He has the uncanny ability to retain those numbers for almost every car & truck he has ever seen....

In all seriousness, if I remember correctly, OCBaud's setup has 255/50/17s on all four corners with a 4-6 drop. Sticking with the traditional theme, here's a quick p'chop of your truck on 15" Cragars (Halibrand look-alikes) with a ~4-6 drop. They come in 17's as well.
BTW, nice truck.

Re: 15" Wheel Suggestions

LMAO

I was actually referring to "My Cousin Vinny" when the smartelec prosecuter asks the chick that question, and she nails him with the fact they didn't make the 427 back then, much less in an Impala.

"What exactly, sir, is a Yoot?"

OK sorry for hijacking the thread... 50 lashes with the wet noodle.

My tires are 255/70/15s, i like having the meat of the 70 series as opposed to the 60 series.

IMO, Torque Thrust wheels are overused. Look for something a bit different.

Re: 15" Wheel Suggestions

Well, I decided on wheel for my truck. I went with the Ultra type 50/51. Its a basic 5 spoke wheel. You can see a pic here: http://www.ultrawheel.com/wheel_deta...?brand=1&id=32 . It will be a week or two before they come in. I'll have to post a pic after I get them mounted. I guess this means that I have a set of 15x8 rally's with fresh paint and NOS centercaps for sale.

Thanks for everyone's input.
