Passenger Kick panel fresh air vents - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

OK...so I am out cleaning the kick panel fresh air vents opening. I get the driver side all done (and it was completely blocked) and I went to the passenger side.

I notice there is a vacuum actuator to open and close the fresh air vent. I did not know this existed...but I think it works in conjunction with the one under the hood opening the vent there to allow fresh air to flow into the cab.

How do I check if this one in the kick panel or the one under the hood in the cowl...actually works?

Is there like a hand pump thingy?

If your vacum lines are still hooked up slide the top lever on your a/c control panel all the way left with the engine running. The vacum actuator on the kick panel vent should open it, the one on the firewall should close the flapper in the cowl and the heater valve should close on the heater hoses. and if the lines arent hooked up or if your truck is disassembled just put on a small peace of vacum hose on it and suck on it to get it to retract. I then usally put my finger over the end of the hose and wait a couple of minuts to see if the thing returns to its original position, which would indicate a leak. That is how I test them to make sure they dont leak and work
