Did 71's have power brakes?

Hey guys, can I run disc brakes up front without the use of a booster? I mean the 71's just had a M/C and pro. valve for the disc brake setup right? And I could just add a booster later on down the line when I can afford it?

Re: Did 71's have power brakes?

yep! I've got discs on my '67 (not factory) and am not running a booster but do have a prop. valve. I plan to get the whole new setup (MC, booster, Prop. valve) from CPP but I've been working on other parts of the truck. It stops incredibly good w/o the booster even w/ 20" rims, and I can still lock up the rears if I try to, so it's not a safety issue, it just takes more pedal force to do so.

Also, the "prop valve" on drum/drum systems is just a tee fitting with a pressure switch (that activates the brake light on the dash). There is no front-to-rear proportioning of the master cylinder pressure on drum/drum. On drum/disc, that "tee" is a real prop valve, providing appropriate pressures to the two different braking system types.

Re: Did 71's have power brakes?

in 71 the power brake option was $50 but as previously stated, all 71s had disc brakes.

Re: Did 71's have power brakes?

My question is...when did the booster become standard equipment? Just curious.
