Need help decoding a 57
I came across a nice rust free 57 today for sale at an awsome price, and I wolud like to know how to decode the vin(3B570115192). Also its a long bed but they will throw in a short bed frame. My question is will putting the cab on a shortbed frame devalue the truck or does that even matter? Thanks for any help, He has someone bringing him an offer tomorrow so I need help.

3B570115192 Go here http://www.americanclassic.com/paint_test.asp to see what it is the long or short bed only depends on whose buy that day. Short is mor popular in the step side and long in the fleet side |

Re: Need help decoding a 57
I guess that 0 is actually an O and is for the plant in oakland. Thanks for the website. Do you guys really think that it being a long bed is a big deal even though I would put it on a short bed? This is a very nice complete truck, all glass is there, big back window, no rust in cab, or body, except for driver door. It has all the mouldings, and hes going to give me 5 bedsides for the short bed and he said that the fenders on the long bed are the same as the short. Also it has the original 235 inline 6 in it and 3 speed tranny on the column. It was also a driver about a year ago.

Re: Need help decoding a 57
1st off welcome to the site. Lots of info for the asking.
Approx 9" out of the frame and it can be a short box. Are you planning on keeping it original or hot rodding it? And or course as the saying goes " we want pictures!!" Brian

I plan on hot rodding it so I dont think it would matter. The condition of the truck just blew me away. If I do get it I will post pictures.

Re: Need help decoding a 57
I was too late, I called him this morning and it was already sold. I should have bought it yesterday. He only wanted $1300.00. Possibly the deal of a life time. I also found a 57 short bed with a nova subframe already installed. This guy only wants $1000.00, but its in pieces. The cab isnt mounted, it needs 1 fender, 1 door, a hood, and a bed. Also it needs all of the glass. Do you guys think that this is a good price? There doesn't seem to be any rust that goes all the way through the cab, but a lot of surface rust. And it is a small back window.

Re: Need help decoding a 57
Hold the phone, as soon as I posted my last entry my phone rang and it was the guy selling the 57. It turns out that the guy he had sold it to was suposed to show up by 2:00 and he didn't show so the truck is mine. I will start a new thread soon showing pictures of the truck.

Re: Need help decoding a 57
Sounds like a sweet deal! I changed from a '54 longbed to a short. Then about a year later my mom get's a '54 shortbed and wants it long so I give her my original long bedsides and she gives me her original short ones. Too bad the chassis work on my shortbed was already done. We could've swapped chassis too. Oh well. I like it as a shortbed. If you get the other chassis it's much easier to swap than chopping your long bed. I chopped mine in 1/2 to use it as a longbed trailer to match. Then I realaized I have no plan on putting a hitch on my truck. Something to think about though.
