Will Any Jack Do?
I've been without a jack in my truck since I bought it because it didn't come with one. I know some of your guys trucks didn't have one either, what are you using? Junkyards back home removed all of the jacks so that you couldn't jack anything yourself while you were in the yard, where can you get a used one at? Will a jack out of any car do? I would think that they didn't design a jack for each cars weight. Anybody know if load ratings differ between vehicles?

Re: Will Any Jack Do?
I think the car jacks are usually the short scissors type which don't work all that well on a truck. Trucks usually have a bottle type jack thats what is on my 86 blazer and it is the same exact jack that my brother has on his 78 2wd so i don't think they changed much over the years.

Re: Will Any Jack Do?
I just have a cheap floor jack in the toolbox. I figure that should do just about anything I need.
The junkyards pull the jacks, but I bet they have some they will sell you. They just don't want you to kill yourself while you are out there digging around. Slonaker |

Re: Will Any Jack Do?
U get what u pay for, I got a cheap one (not floor jack) from Walmart that went sideways under my Blazer that almost crushed me. Get something rated for atleast 2 times the weight of your vehicle.

Re: Will Any Jack Do?
I bought a jack out of an 88-98 GM trucks. It's a low profile scissor jack that fits behind the seat. I happened to find one that had never been used in side the rear of a Tahoe...

Re: Will Any Jack Do?
The stock jack in my '79 Sub is a total POS. It won't get the rear axle high enough to put a stock-diameter tire back on. The only reason the bad tires ever came off is because they were flat on the bottom. I keep one of the $20 toy floor jacks from WM or HF in the back. Using both jacks, I can barely get it high enough to get a good tire on. Never tried the front, but I don't expect much different.
