Question Help with disk swap.

Ok. I have upper and lower a-arm assembly from 86 van. Planned on bolting into my 65. Looks like I will need the subframe as well...the lower u bolts are larger on the 86.

Re: Help with disk swap.

Not sure if the van crossmembers are the same as truck crossmembers?

Re: Help with disk swap.

#1. Does anyone know if the van crossmember is different(other than drilling a couple new holes)?

#2 has anyone adapted the 86 van arms/spindle to the 65 c10 crossmember and how....?

Re: Help with disk swap.

I have herd it is narrower than our frames. Id do as denish suggests. I think the arms and spindles are the same as the trucks. Correct me if I am wrong.

The lower control arm shaft is a larger diameter on the 86 van. I would have to drill another hole for the wider u bolt and the little half moon notch thingy that the shaft fits up onto with the u bolt underneath(rivited in place?) I think i'd have to cut the little notch thing off the 86 and attach it somehow to the 65. Bolt it? I've done some measurements....and it looks like i could get everything lined up right.... anybody know anything for sure?

Thanks

If you remove the lower control arm on the 65 you will see it has the same half moon thing.. Mine did and I used control arms off of a 75 chevy truck. I used my stock smaller u bolts also.. I will get the fatter ones when I rebuild the front end and redrill for them..

Re: Help with disk swap.

The 86 lower control arm shaft is a larger diameter, about 2". It has some sort of sleeve on it. By wider u bolt on the 86 van I mean the 65 u bolt wont fit over the larger diameter control arm shaft or match up to the 65 holes etc.. Can I get a replacement control arm shaft from an earlier year that would eliminate the issue? Or should I scrounge up an earlier lower control arm? So many questions.

Thank you.

Re: Help with disk swap.

Vans are beefier to begin with. They have more weight to carry. You might just want to get some control arms from a truck or you might be able to just swap out for later model ball joints and use your 65 control arms...
