What are they worth ?

I am looking for a "work" truck, pull a trailer, haul some lumber.... I have come across 2 vehicles of interest, a '70 C20 Dually, dealer installed, rebuilt 350/350 about 40,000 miles ago, a lot of different things replaced over the last 10 years, body is in pretty good shape, green in color, asking 4,500.00. The other is a '71 C20 BIG Block/turbo 400, black, original paint, Cheyenne, little rust and straight, asking 4,900.00 . Both have around 125,000 miles.

I tend to lean towards the black BIG Block, it is 20 miles away and I can see that no body work has been done, the '70 dually is 240 miles away, I like the idea of the dual rear wheels, won't see many of them, and the 350 might be easier on gas, but its GREEN. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: What are they worth ?

Id probably go with the 71 c20. Considering its got disc brakes and sounds fairly unmolested. Just be sure the big block is in good shape and everything is there for the price. As anything that involes big block is lots of $$$$.It would help if you have photos. Plus sincce it is the closer of the 2 check it out first. Go look at it take pictures and post them. Tell us anything that you observe that you like or dislike or unsure about. Hope this helps.

Re: What are they worth ?

Thanks, I will probably take it for a ride next week, motor had been cleaned, after market manifold w/a holley, headers, chrome valve covers, clean looking engine. Have not had a chance to talk to anyone, just saw it today at a small lot w/specialty vehicles. Paint is black and faded, looked like it has spent a lot of time ouside, (1) cab corner w/nickle size hole. rockers have some holes, small repair patch, cracked at front center of hood, rest of body is straight, tailgate has a few dents, must have had snaps on box for cover because of the holes on sides of box, looks like a body that has not been touched, much.

'71 C20. Disc brakes are always a PLUS, not to mention you can always add dually wheels.

Re: What are they worth ?

i would go with the dually because it has a small block unlike the 71 and as said before bb stuff is $$$$$$$ and you can always put disk brakes on it

Re: What are they worth ?

I'd buy the green one.... Every green car/truck I've had has been a good one; the other colored ones have always been nothing but trouble, but that's just my opinion..........

Re: What are they worth ?

Talked to the guy today, price dropped to 3,800.00. I think the green one is gone. He bought it off Ebay, no history, a lot off stickers for oil changes 20w50, uses oil?, 130,000 miles. He pulled the valve covers, ran the numbers on the heads and comes up '71 400, so is probably original.

Re: What are they worth ?

Sounds like she is ready for a rebuild. I have to run that thick of oil in my truck because the motor is shot to get oil pressure. If it needs a engine rebuild, which is what it sounds like, that is way to much for it. Be prepared to drop at the very least 1,500.00 or more in the motor, I am not to good with big blocks so forgive me. Oh pictures would help to. Sorry for the bad news.
