door latch install
Hi, all. New here and have gained a lot of valuable info from reading your posts!! I have a 69, and the driver's side door latch is toast. I have a replacement for it, but I'm not sure what all needs to be done to get the old one out and the new one in. This is my daily driver, so I didn't want to tackle this w/out getting advice from the experts. It seem simple, but can't be too sure since I need it Monday. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: door latch install
First off welcome to the board. Now lets get to your question.
1. remove the door and window crank handles with the special clip removal tool. Make sure window is up. 2. Remove door panel. There are 2 screws on the arm rest and the 4 on the bottom 3. remove rear window slide. there is 1 screw by the latch and 2 at the bottom of where the door panel was. 4. If you dont have these go buy them. A #3 for the slide and handle regulator, and #4 phillips, the latch, bit for 3/8 ratchet. You will need them or the screws wont come out. You can get them at sears. Screw drivers rarely work as they are so tight and usually rusted you cant get enough grip or pressure to get them out.. 5. Remove your lock knob, just turn it till it comes off. 6. un screew the 3 screws that hold the door handle regulator in place. 7. Remove the 3 screws that hold the latch in place then slide the assembaly out of the door. 8. You will see how the rods are atached to the latch then disconect them and install them on the new latch. 9. Then it is just reverse of above to get it back in. As long as no screw heads strip out and you have those 2 phillips bits it shouldnt take more than maybe 2 hours. Good luck. Last edited by Aarons72s; 01-28-2007 at 03:35 AM. |

Thanks Aarons72s, that's fast. I'll get on this tomorrow. Should have everything you mentioned, but will double check. Thanks again.
