Found it !
Just a note to all the guys that have helped in the last few weeks in my search for a 67-68 3/4 ton 4X4....thank you for all the e-mails and even the local traders (Mike)!
Its a MINT 67 C20 Chevrolet..... that has already had a frame off resto done in 2000. (so much for me having the fun). But I am still going to think about a new powerplant and switch to an overdrive unit (its got the manual 4-sp in it now). What were the standard trans options and differential ratios? thanks again folks... |

If it is a granny-low 4-spd, it should be a SM420. If you want to keep the 4spd, you could put a Gear Vendors OD behind it. They are indestructable, and will make up for the 4.10 gears you proably have on the highway.

Whats the easiest way to ID the two transmissions?
( I assume they are both 4-speeds? ) Is one stronger or easier to find parts for? I am rethinking the need for a 4L60E as I prefer manuals. As far as the ratios, I am thinking about just replacing the ring & pinions in the diff's for a more realistic vehicle. But the GV stuff is nice (if it'll fit between the transfer and carrier bearing) What were the trim options by the way? (it supposedly has factory AIR but I didnt think that was until 69?) |

You could get factory air in '67. Check the options list on the glovebox door for the factory eqipment.
Also check out my '67 C20 on the link in my sig--sounds alot like yours, except for the resto. Ben

The SM326 is a column shifted 3 speed. The granny low 4 speed is the SM420. The 420 is a good strong tranny, some parts are discontinued, but there are a zillion used trannies out there if you need any gears or anything. You probably have an Eaton rear axle, and I think the highest gear ratio available is 3.90.
