Long time 67-72 Owner; 1st time 73-87 Owner

Good 67-72 trucks are scarce and expensive here. So I moved up a generation and found this 81 GMC K3500.

Runs and drives like new. Solid and clean for a 25 year old Maine vehicle. Dump body added 3 years ago then it sat when owner passed away. Dump body hydraulics work well. Former FD water tanker truck. Bought for $3500. Dana 60 front, Dana 70 rear, 350, NP205 4 speed granny low. 22000 original miles.

Rust on rh rocker, not rusted through though. Fan switch does not work, nor does gas or temp gauge. Needs rear tires (weather cracked) and a hitch on rear for trailer.

Welcome to the kids trucks section!
In the picture with the engine it has a 350 decal on it. Looks like the ones that come on crate engines. Is it 22k on the engine or on the truck?

Nice looking truck!! Welcome to our side of the world, hopefully you will find a spot in your heart for the newer ones as you have already done for the older ones. They are good trucks, and pretty easy to find parts for....comfy and ride nice too.

On the truck. The engine is a replacement. The town FD replaced it before auction 3 years ago because though miles were low, it did idle for extended periods of time due to the FD's usage. It was a dealer replacement as everything was hooked up to factory specs. Not sure of miles on engine but I'd guess it to be few

you bought a good deal IMO. I too have have a 67 C/30 and 2 72 C/10's. I also have a 77 dually and a bunch of 74 -79 trucks. I like them all and hope to add a few more before I'm through. Congrats on a good find.

Good deal on a work horse truck. I think you will learn to love the 73-87's like you do the 67-72's. The tin may be a little thinner, but the heart is just as strong....

White Mountain region - Franconia. Truck is in Kennebunk, ME and was used by the Dayton ME FD before that. Truck will be used for my son's landscaping business and joins the fleet with this truck:

Even better. Just getting a deal on a truck is cool, but when the truck earns it's keep that icing on the cake. You already know the running gear is bullet proof. Just keep the drains in the cracks and crevices cleaned out and the sheetmetal should last a lot longer...
