Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
i would say between 250 and 300. rebuild kit for th350 is about 50 bucks converter about 40 and shift kit about 15 when buying stuff as a rebuilder.i would say up to 350 but not anymore if purchased straight up no r&r in the vehicle

Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
my guy works out of his private resedence, been doing it like that for 10 or 15 years, retired from aamco.
Just wondering, I thought a fresh tranny would be worth a bit more than that. |

Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
It is worth more than that Andy. You and I know what type of work this guy does. As we have both used him.
Most of these guys cant find a tranny shop local to rebuild one for that price. Over the years i have seen multiple threads here about tranny price. Try to buy one at Advance Auto(or insert the parts place of choice here) for that much. Or go to a local yard to get a used one. Most yards want $150 for one with unknown miles. At least. Good luck on a sale.

Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
how much does he want for it? just curious. around here th350 cores go for about 75 bucks.the parts prices i listed are pretty much standard anywhere for rebuilder grade parts.i can understand the guy wanting to make some money for his time but an experienced guy will knock out a th350 in under 2 hours. th350's are about the easiest auto tranny out there to rebuild. the first one i did only took me about 4 hours or so and i was being very very careful to not miss anything

Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
Guy gives 1 year warranty on the tranny. Andy and i both use the same guy. And its 1 year from when you PUT IT IN. Not when you get it back. He keeps records. Call him and tell him when you install it. He marks it down.
CG, if a core is $75, and it cost $100 or so to rebuild it. Then if the guys time aint worth $75 bucks an hour he is wasting his time. His experience is worth that to me. And that goes for anyone who rebuilds trannys. What shop of anykind doesnt charge $75 bucks an hour nowdays? Just my oppinion. Oh yea, and he doesnt charge tax either. Love that part.

Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
i was assuming he was taking a core in exchange for the trans he was giving you.i agree time is money without a doubt you should pay for experience.the one year warranty is also valuable. sounds like a good guy and im going to guess he wants between 4 and 500 for the unit without a core exchange

Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
I got my Th350 core for a case of Bud Light. a pizza box and converter along with all new steels combined with a few hours cleaning netted me a solid tranny.
most shops locally sell bench 350s for around $400. |

Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
The deal is... I have a lead on some cores, and i need to make some money, so i was testing the waters to see what kind of money I could make, while still giving a good guy deal.
Mike, i agree on the parts store cost... I've seen 700 up to 1200, however, have not looked in a few years. Mike is right on the tranny guy. he is known all over central ohio as THE guy to go to. His work is top notch, and some of the ppl who sent me to him (mike included) can be tough customers to please. I'm not exactly the easiest one to please, but he sent me away eith a huge grin on my face. He'll tell you if you are nuts for doing something, and he'll back up his work if ever needed... I have yet to find anyone who needed to go back though. I'm just testin the waters here. |

Re: The dreaded what's it worth thread
Cores go for $20-$75, I've sold used th350's for $75 in working condition.
I usually pay about $300 to have a TH350 rebuilt by the local guy, not including the shift kit ($50)
