Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
I am looking at converting a 4x4 Blazer to a 2wd. I know there as been a few members that have done it but was wondering if anyone has a list of parts and general steps needed. Thanks 4 the help in advance.

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
it really depends on what direction you want to go with it.do you want a stock look or do you want a four bar set up in the rear with Strong arm in the front riding on air bags.if you have a long or short bed frame you can pull most of your hard parts off of that and get close to a rolling frame with just that stuff.you can lower the rear with the existing leaf spring set up or switch over to a coil set up.what do you think you want to do? Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
I am thinking of building a mild custom nothing extreme as laying frame but would like to have bags all the way around on 20's. I know of a couple frames i can pull parts from. What I am looking for is placement of the axles how do I line them up correctly to avoid alot of mistakes in the begining. i don't want to just dive into this project without knowing more on specifics. If you have any measurments and pics you could send my way would help alot.
72k20+afew I agree somewhat with it being a sin on what I want to do but I already have a 71 4x4 that i use for hunting and offroading some but really like the 2wd too. Just can't find any I can afford. |

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
The main reason that 2wd blazers are worth more is because Chevy only made 5,619 from 1970-1972 and the made 77,948 4x4's from 1969-1972. So the odds of finding an affordable 2wd (2me) vs 4x4 are alot slimmer. But the 4x4 i had lined is alot worse condition than the owner had described to and sent me pics of the blazer before all the body damaged happened. i'm a little po'd but i still might buy it for the frame but don't know if i should since the body is gone not 1 clean piece of sheetmetal what do you guys think buy it and make 2wd blazer frame or pass on it? and wait for a clean blazer to start with?

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
I AGREE!!!!!!!!! Dang I can't stand it when someone does that. I think i'm gonna be the first (hopefully just so I can irritate people) to take a ORIGINAL 2wd and make it 4wd. That's my goal now.

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
Go for it,If I found a cheap one that someone didnt know the value of I would buy one and make it a complete bolt in 4x4 application so it could be converted back to a 2wd...

It`s obvious you have no comprehension of the situation what so ever.Open your ears and shut your pie hole and you`ll understand. It`s not like with trucks or anything else. The Blazer is a truck/vehicle in a class by itself with the full convertible top.Nothing made like that for years and only made for a few.We love our 4wdsand offroad use was the main focus for the developement of the Blazer. But GM graced us with a few 2wds,a totally casual easy to hop in and out of vehicle that, although still a Blazer,is at the other end of the spectrum from the 4wheelin`world.Where 4wd Blazersare an awesome offroad fun toy.The 2wd is an awesome cruiseabout for the street. We love both.Get educated on what these 2wds are worth. It takes alot less to have a cherry 2wd than a 4wd,yet the money can be far more. With trucks it`s the opposite.Far more 2wds were made with a 4wd being a much rarer find. And,that`s with far more 4wds made than any Blazer.Someone would have to be out of their mind to want to convert a 4wd pickup to 2wd.It makes no sense. You are right about that. It`s no comparison to Blazers.

This is a thread about a 4x4 that has been converted to 2wd the same way mine will done. It goes thru most of the differences between the 2. special-K - you hit the nail on the head. Very nice post. I'll bite my tongue and not add anything else.

I see that someone doesn't have a sense of humor. Obviously i'm not going to do that but rather I was just saying that to make my point how I don't like it when people take a perfectly good 4x4 to make a 2x4. I have a soft spot for 4x4's seeing as how I have one that i'm very proud of. I can't believe anyone would be PROVOKED by that. Pull yourselves away from your keyboards for a second and splash some cold water on your faces and cool off, I didn't mean anything by it. I'm sure 2wd's are worth a ton...to the right person, i'm just saying that they aern't worth diddly squat to me especially a converted one. You have YOUR opinion and I have MINE.

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
Having had both a 4x4 and a 2wd, I can say without a doubt, the 2wd gets much more attention. I also have a world less trouble with the 2wd than I did the 4x4... Don't get me wrong, I love them both, but I always had more trouble with the 4x4's
I don't really like people converting to 2wd, there are to many of these 2wd's out there already! Rg

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
Too many frames, not enough bodies.2wd or 4wd.If bodies weren`t the issue,we could all build 2wd Blazer/Jimmys on altered 2wd truck frames that are mut abundante,si?

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
I just remembered mine was baby blue originally.I painted it a non-original,yet original looking color....Mercedes Blue.I`d post a picture but I`ve hijacked enough already.
That said...I`m a 2wd Blazer wannabee.I have two pretty rough 4wds,but it`s the bodywork that`s messing me up. I think I`ll just buy LUV2XLR8`s 4wd andconvert it,just to piff "HIM" off.

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
Yeah,I`m sure he would. But,he`d wish he had done it himself. The whole reason he`s sellin`is because he just realized a 2wd was what was right for him. He`s got one now and it will be a nice one I`m sure. And,real soon if he sold GQ.Right Craig????

Re: Faq's on 4wd to 2wd??
LMFAO you guys are killing me. "Merlot" would be pretty dang bad ass if I sold "GQ" however it will never be as nice. Yes I'd thought about switching out the bodies once before when I had my other 2wd, but that is too much work for me to tackle. Would I miss it? YES. Would I be jelous? HELL YES. But It would still not get me where I want to be since I would be swapping parts, but still have no money to do the things I really wanted. If someone bought "GQ" and did that all I could do is drool That said, by selling it I STILL would not have enough $ to do what I wanted to with "Merlot" But ............................. It would be a whole lot closer to what I want

Ok,so the name "Garage Queen" would be an understatement for Merlot.More like "Super Model" or "Sex Goddess" would be more fitting when you`re done.

Mine was lifted on 44" tires at one time. The conversion was done by the P.O
and was pretty nice. I am going to have to stop by and get some pics of when it was lifted from him. |
