Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

Ahhh, life is tough, isn't it...

Personally, I much prefer the stock 4-lamp system using square (actually rectangular) lights. My '86 has this set-up. My old '77 had the 2-lamp, round set-up and I just like the square look better - - maybe because it goes better with the square hood, fender and overall body lines.

Just my $.02.

Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

Give it to me!

But seriously, when it comes down to it, I personally like all the years and grills. Even though 1980 is the oddball I still like it and I would go with it if all the grill and headlight bezels were all in good shape. If I had to replace parts though I would probably use the 1979 round headlight bezels as that requires the least amount of work. I really prefer the 1978 and under bezels that dont include the turn signals in them but i'm not sure if the front section of the fenders are the same.

The 89-91 Blazer/Suburban/Crew Cab front clip also looks bad ass.

I personally can't stand the square HL '80 front end. If I owned one, it would get 79 bezels in a heartbeat (no pun intended).

the 80 was the only year like that i believe maybe 79 had it too i forget but it is a distinctive look id say keep it and detail the grill and light bezels too

i think the early production 80's had round.or late 79 had square it seems to me they overlapped somehow back then.if i remember right.... i'm going to vote round.

Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but are the fenders from 73-78 same as the 79-80 fenders as far the the front edge? I know for sure that the 73-78 ones have the the small notch for the turn signal. On 79-80 though, the turn signal is include in the bezel, and the bezel covers that area where the notch would be. Are these fenders interchangeable ?

Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

i'm pretty sure the fenders are the same.the lower grille molding or valance piece is different, usually painted on pre 79 it's polished on mine.and meets up with headlight bezels.

Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

I'm a big fan of my rectangular lights on my 80

I like the older round headlight clips too, but I think that the 80 clip just fits the bodylines better, not to mention being a unique 1 year old clip

That, and the truck had it when I bought it, so I'm a bit on the biased side If we all had identical trucks, this would be one seriously boring hobby, lol

Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

Mine was an 80 GMC but an early model with the round lights. The top and bottom trim are stainless and match up to the bezels. The larger bezels just add more bling to the front end.

I think only the Silverado packages came with the square HL's, the others got the round units.

Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

I think some pictures of your truck if you have any would be a great help. Some rims and lowering it a bit will really set it off. Tons of stuff you could do for a drivetrain, just depends on what you are looking for and how much money you want to spend on it.

Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

1980 was split as far as headlights go. The early '80 had round headlights, and the later had rectangle.
I'm kinda old school, in that my '80 has round lights and I like them because everything has gone rectangle since. It sorta dates the truck as being "an older truck"

Just my $.02

Re: 1980 silverado what to do?

Not all 1980 trucks had square lights...the low level, plain jane trucks, usually 6 cylinders, still used the better looking round lights....

My '80 was on of 'em, but a big block swap took care of that....

Both of your trucks look awesome! But its hip to be square so I wanna see some pics of 80's square headlight setups.

The 80 square lights looked the worst! Looks like a Ford front end or something... I say go with the round headlights.

I like the square 1980 setups. Mainly because it was a 'one year only' thing. Makes it a little less common.
