Re: interesting find

Yeah, it's a Gremlin. It looks as though the nose may have been lengthened a bit on this one. AMC built a couple thousand red, white and blue, 390-powered Hurst Ramblers... didn't know that they carried the paint scheme over to the Gremlin though. Any AMC that came with these color-combos are worth HUGE money.

"American Musclecar" ran an AMC special last night. Chrysler destroyed all of the molds when they bought AMC. You've got to have a lot of respect for the AMC restorer. They've got to be very patient to build a factory-correct car since nobody makes restoration parts.

Re: interesting find

I doubt that is a stock Gremlin, looks to be customized, much more rounded with the bumpers more sunk into the body. The one's I rode around in had sharper features.

Re: interesting find

it is a javelin made in 68. a show car from AMC, you can see how the Gremlin came about.

That makes sense. The front clip resembles that of an early Javelin.

Re: interesting find

That looks to be a Gremlin-X but the front does look a little long. The gremlin was created when a designer took a piece of paper and covered the rear half of a station wagon. If I get a chance I will ask my grandfather. He was there when the car for being designed.

Re: interesting find

You're right it was a 68 AMX GT show/ concept car. From my AMC muscle car book, " The 1968 AMX GT show car grafted a kammback rear end to a 1968 AMX to create a unique and aggressive coupe. The chopped-off rear end was used on the 1970 Hornet to create the 1970-1/2 Gremlin. " There is alot of cool AMC facts in this book, with alot of other concept cars. I bought it and a few others to research some info on a 1970 Javelin I have. And yes it is very hard to find parts oem or otherwise.

Re: interesting find

Having been an owner of a very fine Javelin (wheel standing capabilities), I can safely say that picture is of a Gremlin. There is some modification to the hood, though. It has a hood scoop grafted onto it from a 69 Javelin.

I would kill for a 69 AMX right about now.

Re: interesting find

"Among these were the 1968 AMX GT. Teague styled a truncated kammback rear for this short wheelbase sports car that was then used on the 1970 Gremlin."

Here is a shot of one of my old toys, a Rebel Machine.
