Can I swap out 6 bolt axles for 5 bolt?
Hi everyone, just wondering if I can replace the 6 bolt axles in my rear end for 5 bolt out of a newer truck? Is it worth doing? What is involved what is the procedure or would I be better off changing the whole rear end? I am still not sure if I will even switch, I may just leave it but I am wondering if its worth the trouble Has anyone gone this route?
Thanks |

Re: Can I swap out 6 bolt axles for 5 bolt?
The newer rears are wider then the older ones. Not much but wider. You can swap out the rear end but only 71 72 years will work as far as bolt in. If you want to switch you can buy some axles from (I forgot) for about $375. You can get a junk yard rear end for about $150.. The only advantage to 5 lug is you get more wheel selection and the front rotors are cheaper then the 6 lug rotors. The 5 lug rotors range from $30 to $90 depending on which one you want... http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductL...r=Disc%2fRotor

Re: Can I swap out 6 bolt axles for 5 bolt?
Thanks for the reply guys, i gues the best and cheaper way would be to find an early rear end. But if one can't be found reasonable buying the axle from Early Classic's would be an easy and slick way to get it done. Thanks for giving me a couple of options.
