My buddy has a '66 4wd (not sure if it is a 1/2 or 3/4 ton). Recently, his t-case died and he has been looking for an affordable replacement. His truck has a Rockwell T 221 devorced unit. Last night, he called on a '69 1 ton GMC that is for sale and the guy said that the t-case would bolt right up. Now, I thought that the '69 would have a Dana 20 in it but he found info on the internet that said it may have the same t-case as his. Does anyone know if this is true. The truck is a little over an hour away so he doesn't want to waste his time if it isn't right. Any info would be appreciated.

Rockwell was used from '60 - '69, although there was some overlap on either end (I'm told). I don't know of any Dana 20s in these trucks, but there's a LOT I don't know.

My '69 has the Rockwell. Two or three different guys on the board here have one available.

Is your Rockwell a divorced unit? Did they use different t-cases in the one tons than in the 1/2 and 3/4?

I believe some Blazers had the Dana 20 but that it was not used in any of the trucks. The 1/2 and 3/4 trucks would use the same transfer case, Rockwell T221 up and including 1969 and then the NP205 from 70 to I'm not sure when. Is he wanting to stay with a divorced setup?

I had a 69 that had the NP205 in it so there is some overlap there as well.

Also, weren't all of the Rockwells married to the trans in '69?

Only GM application of the Dana 20 t-case was in Blazers. None were used in pickups.

He'd like to stick with the same transfer case that he has now so he doesn't have to fabricate or move any crossmembers or get new drive lines. He really just wants to bolt it up. I was pretty sure that all the t-cases in '69 were married units but can anyone confirm this?

My 69 GMC 3/4 4x4 had a rockwell married to a sm420. My brothers 69 gmc 3/4 4x4 has a rockwell married to a sm465. Neutehr are divorced. I have seen a 67 divorced rockwell case.

If the truck he called about is actually a 1 ton 4x4 then it will have a divorced 221, since these trucks were not actually made by GM it was much easier for the conversion company[napco] to just add a divorced case.

If it does turn out to be a napco 1 ton he should see about getting the whole truck, it would make someone a pretty cool resto project, these trucks are very rare.
