What did you get done? 04/15

I was on call this weekend so I didn't get much truck related done. I watched my daughters volleyball team get pounded at a tournament Saturday morning. I spent the rest of the day running service calls.

Today I ran a few more calls then stopped and bought plants to start the Spring color in my yard. Prices of flowers have doubled this year.

Then I went and looked at a truck bed for my buddy n2billet. Checked on a pair of bucket seats that the guy had too. I have to call and make an offer tomorrow.

Just a reminder that your tax return is due tomorrow if you haven't filed already. That is unless you are getting a refund, then there is no deadline.

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

well, saturday i went to the southwest street rod nationals up in okc, as we were about to leave i noticed a guy that i knows son, i said is your dad here, and he said yeah, and told me the story on his car, well i go over to look at it, and it looks totally different outside then before, well he is nowhere to be found, so i call him with a blocked number talking like a mexican, then he sees me and realizes who it is, then as he is about to leave he tries to start the car, well, that is a no go, so about 3 hours later i had done a whole lot, but didn't fix anything really, and finally said screw it, i realized why Small block chevys are junk, and why i like small block fords so much now, then we went to eat and dropped him off at his house, and looked at the other cars, left, and went home, then sunday i went to church, SBF's for the win, SBC's are overused in street rods

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

I got a sbc & 700r4 installed in the Beater! I was beginning to wonder if I would ever get a drivetrain back in this thing so it's a big relief that it's actually bolted in.

I also made progress on my rear shock swap as well. I have the final template(s) for the upper shock mount(s) but ran out of cold-rolled steel plate. I'll get some steel tomorrow & hopefully have the rear end wrapped up by the end of the week.

Still have a long way to go but progress is progress. I was hoping to go over to a fellow board members house & look @ his BBC/Dropmember installation but I never got the call. Maybe sometime this week. . .....

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

I too was supposed to go over to another board member's place and look at his truck and have him help me with mine, but I got busy all weekend and didn't get the chance to call him. Sorry bud.

As for me, I got new plugs and plug wires installed, and pulled more chrome trim off my truck. It keeps falling halfway off, so I been just pulling it off for now. Then I helped my buddy with the bag job on his 70 caddy coupe deville, till I had some other stuff come up.

Nothing overly exciting. Nothing really car related. Went grocery shopping at wally world yesterday and checked out my buddies Pontiac grand am thats not starting at all. Still got me confused going to look at it again tomorrow after work. Started up the Blazer and hopefully got a lead on a new axle for it soon!

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

Finished the tranny on the Diesel K5, and gave it a much needed vaccuming / polishing inside. I also fixed the corroded out tailgate window wiring, and lubed up all the tracks for both the tailgate, and both doors. Finally, plugged the hole in the tire, and aired them all back up.

Took it for a spin around the block, and despite being a bit on the smelly side with the tailgate window open, it drives really nice. Steering is nice and tight, drives straight, despite the steering wheel being a bit off center. Brakes struck me as a bit lacking for being hydroboosted, so I'm going to try adjusting the rear drums, as the front disk brakes look brand new.

Diesel actually seems to have a fair bit of pep, I had no concerns with its power levels, infact, it was better than I was expecting, very similar acceleration the 4.3L I daily drive, which has 200 hp, and 260 some ft lbs of torque.

Tommorow I'm going to give it a much needed bath, and another quick vaccuming job. Someone we all know and love got mud on the carpet Then, I'm going to list it for sale at 1700 bones, and use that money to finish my 80's 6.0L swap

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

Over the last week or so I've been working on a Suburban for my Brother. It's an 84 with a 454, but the 454 has issues. I have a nicely rebuilt 350 that was in my 71 chevy truck, I no longer have the truck so the engine needed a home. To make things easier and hopefully get better mileage we decided to swap out the 454 with the 350.

Thursday moring I got the 350 in the Burb and had to take a break friday and saturday....tweeked my back a little at work. So Saturday and Sunday I went to the pull-a-part and found more than what I needed...or had the $$ for. For the Burb I found a set of valve covers, the rest of the power steering pump brackets I need, and a throttle cable bracket. I also found some parts for my mazda b2000 that will help me get it going...will find out after I get the burb done. Sunday my brother and I hit some parts stores and got some stuff too.

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

Saturday - work 7am-2pm, race team meeting 2-5pm, scanning PCM codes of my friend's '95 GTP (unsuccesful) 6-7pm, looking for a vacuum leak 7-8pm, tearing down engine of said GTP and replacing lower intake gaskets as well as every single vacuum line 8pm-3am, midnight dinner, sleep.

Sunday - "breakfast" 2pm, junkyard run 3-5pm (got parts for the GTP, a buddy's Lincoln, and a distributor gear for my truck), installing "new" parts in the GTP 5-6pm, installing new speakers in the GTP 6-8pm, pulling seats and cleaning interiors in the GTP 8-9pm, watching "Drive" on Fox, surfing the net, wasting time, soon to be in bed again.

Overall decently productive weekend, and one of these days I'll be swapping my "new" distributor gear in and switching over to Shell Rotella oil as suggested by Rene from Melling's tech staff.

Sold my truck on EvilBay. Got $5151 for it. Which was more than my Buy It Now price. Buyer drove down from Austin to take it for a drive and give me the deposit. As soon as the rest clears Paypal, it goes to him. : (

Vacuum tuned my engine. The 1406 Eddy carb was WAAAYYY off. Timing was perfect. Sold 2 73-87 bezels and a tach cluster on eBay. Fixed exhaust leaks. Helped my wife not to buy a horse.

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

was going to get the yardwork done, it was just way too cold andwindy, like 40mph...so I guess I'll do it one day this week after work.
Tore my front end apart, should have painted my spindels before I put them in, so now I have to do it. Getting new calipers and painting them today.
Back to work...

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

Worked on the Stepside most of the weekend. Got the electric fan wired in with a relay and all of the wiring concealed into the stock harness. Got the interior completed but pulled an "ID10T" on the aftermarket window rollers. (No explanation just screwed up!) Created my firewall wiring harness cover out of some left over aluminum I had kickin around. (No pics yet they're home on the digi cam ) Worked on the yard the rest of the day on Sunday to get it ready for my daughters birthday next Saturday. 45 plus people! I must be nutz.

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

Got the carb reassembled and reinstalled. Aside from some minor "tweaking" left to do, the truck is back on the road. Thanks to many board members for all the help.

Also managed to take a big bite out of a cd/head unit installation on our daily drive. Truck cd installation is still on the books...

Nothing for me, gave away 5 puppies and got 3 of them returned. That was sad but better then ppl dumping them off or the pound. Some just couldn't keep them, other's had allergic reactions to the dander I'd guess.

Other then that nothing, had to stay up all night sat night/sunday morning to watch the creek. it was about a foot from spilling into the roads and making us move the truck and car out.

Sold my cab and front clip from the donor truck... after blowing off a dozen guys who wanted it delivered, I finally found someone who wanted it bad enough to pick it up. Now that the unnecessary parts are out of the picture, I get to go to work preparing the frame for my eventual '73 cab swap(pending the end of winter).

Re: What did you get done? 04/15

Finished painting my new calipers, rotors, and powdercoated my new drop spindles. The McGaughy parts look to be great quality and the PST kit was complete except for one bolt for the upper ball joint. I will get some pictures tonight as I start to put it all back together!! I have been looking forward to this for a while now! I can't wait to work with nothing but clean parts for a change (the hardest part is cleaning old parts and prep for paint/powdercoat).
