Accelerator rod+Edelbock 1406, am I missing something!?

OK, so when I push on the gas pedal, the portion of the accelerator rod under the hood moves towards the rear of the truck to pull the accelerator linkage and give more gas. The linkage on the Edelbrock 1406 is designed to be pushed to give more gas and accelerate. So the stock accelerator linkage now moves backwards for the carb to work. What am I doing wrong and what do I need to do to make it work.

This is a 1968 C10 with a 305, Edelbrock performer intake manifold and carb.

I have searched but come up with nothing. Maybe I searched for the wrong terms so hopefully I don't upset anyone. Thanks, Moneypit.
