Re: door check removal
Vic:
The door check is held in place at the A pillar with a friction pin. It can be removed with a hammer and punch from the bottom. The friction pin is slighly tapered, therefore it has to be pushed up from the bottom. The door check at the door shell is removed by removing two screws into the check and pulling it out by taking off the inner door panel and reaching inside the small opening and pulling it out. I have done this several times. I suggest installing new door checks, especially if your old ones are worn. Installation of a new door check is done in reverse, ensuring you drop the friction pin in from the top. Secure the door check into the door first and then install the pin. When working properly, they should hold the door in the full open position and keep it from over extending, thus damaging the door skin from impacting the cowl extension. Good luck with your project.
