Lookie what I found

3 miles from my house. Original 402 BB Auto. Factory A/C, ps, and pb. The truck was in the barn it's sittin next to but now sit's outside, and it's been sitting outside for about 3 yrs. Factory wood bed is rotten, but suprisingly not that much rust. The guy who owns it said he'd sell it but wanted me to name a price and he said he knows what it's worth, so I said I'd get back with him. The truck starts and runs but has'nt been driven in a while.

So what do you guys think it's worth. I'm thinkin about $2500-$3500 because the body is so straight and supposedly has original drivetrain.

Re: Lookie what I found

Thats all original? That engine bay looks pretty clean.

Hows the interior look?

I'd offer $2500.00 .....

Check the front clip mounts for rust also some people miss that.

Re: Lookie what I found

It's been my experiance that when someone says "I know what it's worth" they mean they want a bunch of money.

Ya never know though, if it's as clean as it looks i'd offer 2500 and see what he says. You can always offer more, but it's impossible to offer less after you've named a price.

The last four of these trucks i've bought, I haven't payed more than 1200 for one. The last three have been really clean,,,,very little rust, complete, straight, one of them had a bed full of extra body and interior parts from a parts truck the po had sittin around.

Good luck hope it works out for you.

If the guy knows what it's worth then he shouldn't have any problem putting a price on it. I think he's just trying to make you think he does so you don't try to lo-ball him.... I always tell them that it's hard for me to buy the truck and sell it too. Thats what you are doing if you name a price. Put a little pressure on him to price it and if you have to make him an offer start low. No matter where you start he will probably want to add two or three hundred to it..

Just my 2¢ worth

Re: Lookie what I found

I think he`s just protecting himself from a low price and he doesn`t know what to ask.He just knows they are worth more than just an old truck. Is it maroon or bronze.I don`t think there was a maroon/burgundy in 71/72.I`d say in the $3500-5000 range. If he had no idea it was special,I`d offer 1/2 that.It is an unmolested big block truck.

My thoughts exactly. The dude has probably been watching too much Barrett Jackson and the truck is his retirement fund. If he says that he knows what they're worth, then he knows what he wants for it. Nothing bugs me more than people that say that, then turn around and say nope, not enough, don't waste my F'n time with that stupid game. Tell me what you want for it and we'll negotiate from there if I think it is too high. People that say that hope that YOU don't know what they're worth and offer him far more than he was thinking.

Just my opinion.

Mike

Re: Lookie what I found

If he wants to treat like a Barret Jackson show then do like they do and nit pick every little thing you can on the truck. Start at the front and work your way back making a list of things that are wrong with it. Then make an offer.

I still say go low no matter what the guy knows .... if he knows what its worth it wouldnt be sitting outside next to a barn.

Good luck bro looks like a good find nun the less.

Re: Lookie what I found

The engine looks great, but if it's all original, shouldn't it have a quadra jet instead of what looks to me like an edelbrock carb? & I agree, if the guy thinks it's so valuable, why has it been outside for years, my buddy just bought a very nice all original 72 cheyenne C20 BB 402 ac, blah, blah, blah for $3,500 & the original paint looked alot better then that truck. It kinda piss's me off when the guy who supposedly knows what it's worth won't even put a price on it, at least then you would know the guys is way off base & keep looking for a "nicer all original BB that is priced correctly") I'm thinking $3,000 if the guy can make you believe there's something special about the truck, $3,500 tops. It's not like it's hard to find a long bed with a big block.

Re: Lookie what I found

I always tell guys that I won't put a price on their parts or vehicles. I usually tell them to get me in the ballpark and if they still don't want to give me a starting point I'll give them my card and tell them to give me a call when they decide what they want for it. I usually don't make it but a couple of steps before they say "hey, wait a minute, how about $this much"......

If he "knows" then the only reason he wants you to guess is to better his "perception" of what it is worth. It is only worth what you, or someone else, is willing to pay for it. Offer only what you are willing to pay for it based upon the market in your area.

Ask youself what you could easily resell it for and offer him that amount...DO YOU REALLY HAVE TO HAVE IT? I always ask myself that question and frequently walk away...especially if he is not willing to price it himself. If it is running...$1000-$1500...but I don't want or need it...LOL!

Good Luck!

Truck looks like a nice solid runner. I'd give 2-3K pending further inspection (under cab etc.)

Re: Lookie what I found

I think stillookn nailed it on the head, no matter what "he thinks it's worth" it's only worth what someone will/would pay for it, he's probably hoping you will guess high, remeber this is a long bed truck with a BB, if it was a shortbed truck with a BB he might have a little advantage on you, but like I said earlier there is plenty od decent BB Longebeds around, try not to "want it" too bad, play his game & offer what it's really worth & if he starts yacking your way off, tell him your on your way to look at another truck with cash in your pocket! & say...........SEEEE YA!
