84 Chevy custom deluxe

my dad found me an 84 c10 custom deluxe with a 350 4 speed but it originally came with a 3 on the tree and a 250 i thought you had to have a high hump floor if it was a 4 speed or am I going crazy again? and it has 78xxx original miles and pretty straight, and rust free, considering its been a work truck its whole life. Its also along bed im thinking I should be able to get it for less than $500 or should i bid more?

Re: 84 Chevy custom deluxe

Should be, if it's running and fairly rust free.

Re: 84 Chevy custom deluxe

some trucks that were automatics...and were converted to standards, have the short hump, my truck is the same way...the way I could tell was by the crappy cutting job on the floor board *shrugs*

Re: 84 Chevy custom deluxe

I got my '79 fir $500, with engine with wiped out bearings and messed up carb, no floorboard under driver, damaged exhaust, hacked wiring, and rear bumper rolling in the bed. Around here that's considered a good deal.

On the hump question, my truck was a 250 with a three on the tree, it has a pretty high hump, not flat like some I've seen on pics here.

Re: 84 Chevy custom deluxe

That sounds like a very reasonable price to me especially if it's rust free. You know how hard that is to find around here!

Where are you located in Mo.? I live just ouside Springfield. If you buy that truck and are in the Springfield area would you be interested in joining a truck club for the 73-87s? Another member here Bobbo and I are trying to get some guys together here for a club. Let us know. ...Joe

Re: 84 Chevy custom deluxe

The truck is in newburg Just after Rolla on 44 I live on the Missouri about an hour outside of St. Louis in New Haven This truck needs a few new parts (cab corners, rockers 1 bedside) but thats about it I hope. Its a steal If I can get it. If I was closer to Springfield I would join but I live 4 hours about from there.

It's too bad that you are so far from Springfield because we can use as many people as we can get to start this club.

If you buy that truck be sure to post up some pictures so that we can all see it. We love pictures! ...Joe

Re: 84 Chevy custom deluxe

Ok my dad Test Drove this truck for me on Tuesday and he said that it had a mechanical clutch and it was binding up on him. He said it almost took 2 feet to push in the clutch. He said the floorboards are perfect (the rubber floor mats are gone) He said the speedometer read 45 when he was on 44 and hardly any body was passing him. It sounds like to me the speedometer gear is the wrong one for the rear end gear ratio. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix the clutch linkage from binding, other than taking it completely apart, and cleaning it, and greasing it, and putting it back together? Any body ever do a swap from a three on the tree to a four speed? If you did could you use the same clutch linkage?

Re: 84 Chevy custom deluxe

Yea you can use same linkage from a 3 on the tree to a 4 speed. or any standard shift swap for that matter really.

if it's not worn out bushing or onlonged holes should just need greased and it be fine. Maybe they had a real stiff spring on it or a new clutch, alot of the new clutches are stiff and some have a very hard pedal feel.

Our 76 was 3 on the tree and I don't remember it's floor being as high as the one in our old 86 4x4, but one thing I know for sure was it definately was taller then the one in our 84 2wd that's a th350.

Also sometimes a car 4 speed can be swapped in and not need the high hump floor to clear I'm pretty sure.
