Motor mounts for 351 V6 in C2500
The stock motor mounts on this truck are pretty inadequate. They start out as tidy rectangular blocks of rubber but after 10 years or so they get all mushed out of shape and are starting to crack. At least twice before, I've had to replace them when the left one -- the side of the engine that tries to lift under torque -- came apart.
I recently started noticing the familiar symptoms again and found that sure enough, the left mount had separated. This time, though, I wasn't able to find those mounts for sale anywhere. It's not like your normal parts catalog is even going to recognize the 351 engine, but this time even catalogs that showed other 351 parts seemed not to know anything about the mounts. I ended up improvising. I found a pair of "universal" (and/or '72-'91 Jeep) motor mounts (#2.1102) in the Energy Suspension catalog that turned out to be almost the same size as the originals. All I had to do was file each of the mounting slots 3/16" longer to accept a pair of bolts 4" OC. I've only replaced one mount so far, the bad one. The new one is made of harder material than the original so I do feel more engine vibration now, but I can live with that. Does anyone know of any other ways to get motor mounts that'll fit this application? The 3.1108 mount (same catalog page) looks like an exact fit for my transmission. Is there anything I should know or check first? ---------------------------- '68 GMC C2500 with 351 V6, Turbo Hydramatic 400A. My other car is an '80 Honda Civic. |

Re: Motor mounts for 351 V6 in C2500
Motor mounts for the GMC V-6's are tough to find now. My truck has a 4 speed, and the rear mounts are the standard bell housing mounts off of most any GM medium duty truck. The front ones (GM part #2391949) have been obsolete for a couple of years now. I was very fortunate to find a pair of NOS ones. I think you have found about the best solution. The V-6's, particularly the 351, are very heavy engines and make a lot of torque. They are hard on motor mounts.

Re: Motor mounts for 351 V6 in C2500
Same issue a few years ago with mne. I ended up using 2 V8 automatic transmission mounts for my 63, 305E V6. Had to drill a seond hole on the bracket that bolts to the frame. Has worked great for years. Jeremy

I would love to hear how people have dealt with this and the results.

Re: Motor mounts for 351 V6 in C2500
The Good people on the 6066GMC site suggest to send out your originals to be rebuilt by Steele Rubber; about $60 +/- a pair plus wait time.
I purchased these stands from a member here for my future project. A different style mount is seen and cheaper to replace; about $10 dollars each I believe. Not as meattee as the originals, but another alternative. As GOPhERSNAKE mentioned, you may be able to get away with these, although the application is for a transmission. These have an interlocking plate in case of breakage and the threaded bolts.

Here was the part number for this item. I have not done this "mod." Also others have suggested a JEEP style motor mount will work; sorry i don't have the part number.

Re: Motor mounts for 351 V6 in C2500
Got some more info with All the credit going to the GMC 6066 Jolly site!
Apparently there are two style mounts for Automatics and Manual trans vehicles. Here is the automatic one; Motor Mount for 1964-1966 GMC 305 and 351 V6 for AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS • NAPA Part Number: BK 6021090 Price: $16.49 -enter # only, not BK, to get part to show up • CARQUEST Part Number: 31-2315 Price: $15.00 Motor Mount for 1964-1966 GMC 305 and 351 V6 for MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS • NAPA Part Number: BK 6201045 Price: $6.49 -enter # only not the BK I wasn't able to get the CARQUEST numbers to come up, but the NAPA does work if you leave off the letters in your search. Note that the Manual trans version, only has the center bolt and not the two, like the factory one. So maybe along with the Eurathane mount, rebuilding the old ones or these alternatives, our trucks won't be down for too long.
