Inside roof under headliner?

When I took my headliner out of my '82 K5 to replace the plastic trim the roof was a black color (the rest is red) under the headliner. The color like when you buy new body parts.
If I pull the headliner out of my '86 GMC regular cab truck will it be the same or should it be painted body color? After all the trucks I have parted or helped part I have yet to pull a headliner EXCEPT from a black truck?

If I pull the headliner and trim out of my truck permanently will it be obvious that it used to have the headliner and trim? Besides the screw holes.
And on the flip side, if I went to put a headliner and trim on a truck that wasn't optioned that way from GM will it just bolt up? Or would I have problems with the dome light and cargo light switch and such?

Thumbs up Re: Inside roof under headliner?

Well,

I have had the headliner out of my truck and the whole roof was painted black same as the exterior not primer black.

As far as pulling your liner out it should look ok as long as the roof is the same color as the exterior.

And a truck that didn't have a headliner will not need any mods to make one fit other than the screw holes for the trim.

The dome light won't be a problem cuz the head liner will have the hole for it allready and the cargo light sw. is mounted on the aft cab piller plastic trim panel and should not be a factor when it comes to the headliner but the cab will have to be moded for the wiring harness for the cargo sw. if it didn't come with it form GM.

I noticed in your sig you have a couple of K5 Blazers but you also have 2wd after that.

I thought the "K" suffix signified 4WD so is it possible to have a 2WD K5 Blazer or are both of them 4WD to 2WD conversions?

All Blazers were deemed K5, regardless of 2wd or 4wd.

Blazers are an exception, like 60's stangs relating to f**d, if they didnt wear those four letters of sin we could all own three...

Thanks for the info. I recently bought an '86 GMC swb and plan on selling it once the new engine and tranny are in it. It is the Sierra Classis trim and has a real nice headliner and all the accompanying trim. My lwb GMC is a High Sierra and has no headliner. I would like to rob the headliner (and a few other parts) for my keeper but not if it is going to make it look too bad.

You are right about the c/k designation, but like stated above, the K5's are the exception to the rule. I am tempted to call it a C5 but that might get too confusing with the Vette's and all.
So yes, they are both factory 2wd's.

Re: Inside roof under headliner?

The roof should be painted from the factory. If you are removing one, all the trim holes will be there, but otherwise it should "look" correct.
