Speaker wires?
I'm getting ready to wire up a radio/cd player in the GMC. (don't worry, I didn't cut the dash) Do I need to use special speaker wire to wire the speakers up to the stereo? I got ready to wire them, but the little bit of wire the speakers came with was a lot different than the wire I had, it had 1 little wire in the middle versus a lot of little wires like I'm used to.
Thanks for the help. |

Re: Speaker wires?
it dont mater but i like to use 12gauge for it just incase i want to upgrade later that way i wont have to run more wire later.but 14 would be fine i would think
as to the one wire after you strip it,to the "lots of little ones" all the same ones just smaler and it depends on the wire gauge Last edited by wannabelow; 07-21-2007 at 12:15 AM. |

Re: Speaker wires?
w/WannaBeLow - unless you are only using 5.25 size speakers or smaller w/deck power. If are not going to ever upgrade and put these on an AMP in the future, you can get away with 16ga or 18ga wire. Anything larger than a 5.25 I would go ahead and use 14ga or larger depending on what that speaker's function/wattage will be running.
Good luck |

Re: Speaker wires?
Yep, I got some 5.25's. I have some fairly heavy gauge wire here, I'll just use that. Thanks for the help guys.
