Need help now!
Ok my truck isnt gonna move much...so im not gonna have the long tube headers or the magnaflows very quickly. So i was thing of making my own dumps....i want to cut right after the flowmaster but would it be smart to just cut and leave it like that? I mean the flowmaster is under the beggining of the bed so if i cut right after it all the smoke is gonna be hitting the diff. and not the cab lol. But then i was thinking cut right before the last bed which is over the diff. and it will be pointing down behine the diff.. But then again i wanna cut as close to the flowmaster to see how it sounds....i dont have to do this but i reallly wanna hear it...my curiosity is taking over lol.

Re: Need help now!
I don't see why not bro. We ran some straight pipes with glasspacks on my old 76 and they were just cut off at the back of the glasspacks with no turndowns, so they pointed right at the rear end. it wasn't lowered or anything though, but I don't see where you'd have problems. I know alot of people online who dump there's before the rear end with just turn downs on the end of the muffler.
I know what you mean, after thinking about it, tailpipes on my glasspacks make it a bottle neck sound and weird, when my old truck just was a nice roar, and no buh, buh, buh sound while driving. So I want to cut them after the mufflers, and try it out, or put on flowmasters and leave em open on the backend with no tailpipes. Everyone says the tailpipes really quiet down and take away from flowmasters.

Re: Need help now!
Just get header mufflers. They are glass packs that bolt straight to long tube headers. All you need to do after that is clamp on some turn downs. You can get the mufflers from Summit or Jegs for $30 or so, and the turn downs and clamps are cheap.

Re: Need help now!
Jon, you only need a hack-saw to cut exhaust, alternatively a sawzall or a large cut-off wheel, but I always used a hacksaw with relatively fine teeth. Here's a pic of my exhaust, that's kinda whatcha lookin for, right?

Re: Need help now!
Well then go to the nearest hardware store and buy a hacksaw, I use Kobalt tools from Lowe's and I never had any complaint about quality or strength and they are fairly priced too. Actually I managed to crack a 15mm deep socket when yanking on a Lincoln bumper last summer, that socket has seen tons more abuse ever since and it still works flawlessly.

Re: Need help now!
Yea thats the most i did made a line through the pipe and a big hole in the middle but it didnt even weaken the pipe whatsoever...but yet it gave it a deeper throaty sound lol so ima do the same to the other side.

Re: Need help now!
lol, never said it was easy - it's really a pain in the butt, but it's much easier to control vs. a super sawzahl or something of that sort. Now go find a buddy who got said sawzahl and cut them pipes off! You don't wanna be driving around with pipes half-way cut cause that messes up flow real bad.

Re: Need help now!
I have an exahsut pipe cutter, like a big chain with small wheels on the links and looks like pliers on bottom cuz it has 2 handles.
They make QUICK work of the pipes. I've cut many with em. Honestly other then being able to get in there with a hacksaw to cut them, I've never had a problem using the hacksaw. They seem to cut through quick with the right blade on it.

Re: Need help now!
Oh yah, Christ brings up an excellent point - you can obtain a pipe-cutter through some parts store's free tool-rental program, I did the sidepipes on my Lincoln with one of them last summer, they work real good and are real easy to use too. Jon, I keep saying to cut the pipes off cause the way you have them now some of the exhaust gases fly out through the cuts you made, and some keep resonating down the tail pipes, so the sound you hear now ain't gonna be quite the sound you gonna hear with pipes completely off. Also another tip - don't try to tune yer engine with the crappy exhaust on, wait till you get the new exhaust system on, exhaust flow does make a difference for engine's performance, so for optimal performance you want the engine and all to be as close as possible to the setup you gonna run permanently.
