Right Turn Signal Dash Light - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Turned on my headlights this morning and the right turn signal indicator light stays on. Signal works fine, the light just stays on, (only when the lights are on?) Any ideas?

Could be a ground issue. I redid my dash about a month ago and noticed that all of the connections where the light bulb units screw into the back circuit board were "dirty" and "corroded" looking. I used some metal polisher stuff I had and cleaned up all the connections until they were shiney again. I also did the same thing where the plug goes into the back of the gauges.

My turnsignals used to do the same thing when I turned the lights on, but now they work properly....

Both of mine do that. I haven't had time to look at it yet, but I think it's most likely a grounding problem. I'd check that and also do as
67ChevyRedneck said and check the circuit board for corrosion.

the light is supposed to do that when there is a bulb out. If your bulbs are good front and back, then pull the lights out of there sockets, inspect for corrosion and/or nasty grease, clean as needed... if it still does it, then take a good look at the grounds.

^Really? Never knew that! I replaced a couple blown bulbs when I redid mine, maybe that's what actually fixed it!

To clean the contact surface on the printed circuit use a typewriter eraser. Don't use a regular pencil eraser they leave a residue on the metal this also works for the plug pins on the dash wiring harness.

I've had this happen (occasionally, and in wet weather) and remember reading here some time ago about poor grounding at the marker lights. Of course, it hasn't happened since I read about it...

wow, thanks everyone, I did'nt know about the bulbs either would make the light stay on. All signals work, I'll start there before I go to the dash, Thanks again, good job !!!

side markers won't do it, they don't draw enough of a load to make a difference.

Old thread, but I had a different solution to this problem on my '70. Turns out there was corrosion in the crimp where the bulb socket attaches to the reflector/housing. A quick pop with a punch and the ground was restored. Problem fixed!
