new bed in CT...truck in WV...this is how i did it

bought a new bed for my truck in CT cuz every quote i got down here in WV was around $800 for a decent bed. picked up a mint short bed in CT for $300. the problem was the truck was still in WV, and all i had in CT to bring the new bed back with was my Z28. my family had this little POS utility trailer in our woods that hadnt been on the road in 3 years and had a 4'x4' platform. the bed is 6.5'x6'. with the bed on the trailer pulled up far enough to have enough tounge weight the tounge was only 1 foot long, which would not allow me to turn with it behind my car. a wood 2x4, a 6' piece of angle steel, 8 6" lag bolts, and a few beers later i had this.

500 miles and 9 hours later i was in WV and the only problem i had was the left turn signal didnt work so i had to use my hand to signal a lane change, and 1 dust cap fell off after 100 miles. the thing that made the trip horrible was that i had JUST finished putting in my headers, tune, and full WS6 front suspension on the camaro but had to only go 60mph the whole way down, while there were more mustangs on this trip than id ever seen and all i could do was rev at them. people were taking pictures from their cars, giving me the thumbs up, and mouthing "that is funny" from their windows. oh well, at least i got to put my engineering schooling to the test!

anybody need a trailer hitch for a 93-02 F body? only used once, fits with dual pipes!

That's too funny. I hope you don't start showing up on those "you might be a redneck" sites...

Well you could have at least centered the wheel openings on the bed with the trailer wheels.

J/k...glad you made it OK...definately not something I would have tried.

Good 'ol redneck ingenuity at it's finest! My favorite part is the duct tape! I just about fell out of my chair when I first saw this and read the phrase "a few beers later." That's how it usually happens! Gotta prime the pump to get the brain cells working! Too funny! At least you accomplised what you set out to do though. ...Joe
