On a different note...'69 2WD lift?
Hi all, I see that this is clearly a "slam'n" type of place, but I would like to be different! Anyone know of a place where I can find replacement front coils that will give me an inch or two of *lift*. I know, I know...it's all about bags, notches, and lay'n frame! Try'n to keep my chin *out* of the dirt though.
The truck is a '69 2WD C10 with leafs in the back. I would like to just get slightly taller front coils but would be interested in any suspension lifts that you guys know of for the truck. Thanks! Last edited by FingerTight; 08-22-2007 at 01:36 PM. |

Re: On a different note...'69 2WD lift?
1ton big block coils might lift it a small amount.i m not positive on that but sounds like a good answer.
you could use some coil spacers like on a lot of newer trucks, can usually get 1-3" lifts...body lift would be 3 ugly inches, but cheap. well, thats my .02...........except for................ sell it and buy a 4x4,or swap in a solid axle, could even do a straight axle 2wd swap to get leaf springs on the front and lots of lift possibilities. anyhow..

Good ideas, I was debating the spacer. Also talked to National Spring in Santee, CA about some custom coils @ $325 a set. http://www.nationalsprings.com/

Re: On a different note...'69 2WD lift?
I pulled a Fabtech 4" lift off a 2WD 69 a while back... it's just sitting on my shelf collecting dust. It consists of upper and lower control arms and coil springs. I also have a set of rear leafs off the same truck. The truck never saw the road with the components... and never will! If you're interested in something like this make me an offer.

Re: On a different note...'69 2WD lift?
So I am finding some kits for 73 - 87, how is this vintage front suspension different than mine? Any thoughts on whether or not this will work for me?

Get a 2wd suspsension lift for the front coils...73-87 type should work, and just lift the back up using blocks..

Just the info I was looking for, so these coils will work. Any thoughts as to how high I can go before I need to start changing things other than the coils? (arms, ball joints, spindles, etc) I am guessing anything below 2" will be fine but would love to hear from someone who has done it...

Re: On a different note...'69 2WD lift?
I dont know for a fact that it will work so you might ask others that know 2wds...but it should..Worse that could happen would be you need to put a 73-87 crossmember in the front..I dont know if the rear lift kit from a 73-87 will work but since yours has leaf springs in the back,it might.Personally,I'd go for Porterbuilt's set up since you know it will work since it was already on a 67-72.

Re: On a different note...'69 2WD lift?
i think 2" is the most lift i would do with just coils. any more than that and you start wearing out ball joints. the control arm angles get pretty out of whack.. i used to have 3" lift coils with ball joint spacers and it was a harsh ride. it got better when i got the new a arms. if i would do it again i would use a "kit" similar to what porterbuilt has.
