1985 K-5 value
I am hoping someone can help me out so that I can keep an older friend of mine from being taken.
He is finally ready to sell his 1985 K-5 Blazer, but some of his so called friends in the used car business are telling him it isn't worth much ($1500). I think they're trying to rip him off. Here are the details of what he has: One owner, never been wrecked, and has less than 150,000 miles. It is a 305 SBC with automatic, A/C (this is Texas after all), P/B, P/S. It is two tone black / gray if I remember right. He has real nice BF Goodrich A/T tires too. Besides the 305 instead of 350 SBC, the only problems are a cracked windshield and a piece of side trim that is coming loose. So I am pretty sure this is a very popular truck. Can anyone please tell me what kind of price range this vehicle might fall into so that I might advise him. I would have bought this 6 years ago, but I am not in a postion to buy at this time. I am doing this for him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. He may have me post a classified ad after I pass on info. Thanks, Tony |

Re: 1985 K-5 value
There are not a huge amount of these trucks that haven't been monkeyed around with, with stupid lifts(over 6") rusted out bodies , and other weird desecrations (camo paint jobs - etc.)
I just don't see a lot of them anymore, and i have been looking since i got an 88 a couple of months ago. Being scarce doesn't necessarily mean valuable though. The suburbans are a lot more common, it seems. $1500 sounds low unless the interior is in rough shape or it has rust issues. A windshield is only about $150 installed for one of these. I would guess $2500 for starters, but thats without seeing it |

Re: 1985 K-5 value
Thanks for the replies.
The truck has no rust that I am aware of. I was thinking no less than $2500, and really thought they went for at least $3500. Knowing that he might find someone on here that is really interested, I am going to try and get him to let me post an ad for him tonigh or tomorrow. Tony |

Re: 1985 K-5 value
I have seen trucks like that on ebay for up to 4 or 4500 if the paint and body was good. The metallic 2 tones (silvers) from that era had a bad prob with paint flaking and peeling though
A restored or very well preserved lower mileage one could sell for $8000 or more. $3500 would definitely be do-able if paint and body were decent and interior was all there |

Re: 1985 K-5 value
A dealership is going to low ball you because they want to make money off the sale, plus they generally have no clue what something that old it worth. With that said, it is hard to put a priced on a text description. Good condition 4x4's of the 81-86 era around here are roughly (high prices) $2000-4000. Exceptional ones possibly will go $5000-6000 tops.

Re: 1985 K-5 value
I guess it depends on where you live around here in my neck of the woods you would have a very tough time selling it for $1500. Unless it has a lift and some big tires and a nice paint job on it you would be lucky to get a grand for it. That is unless there is a person out there that really wants it and can't live with out it.

Re: 1985 K-5 value
I passed all the replies on to Bruce. He has agreed to let me take pics and post an ad for him. I won't be able to do that until Monday or so.
I plan on taking lots of pics. Maybe I should post a few here first to see what you'll think about a starting price. I really hate to just pull a price out of my rear for the fella. I'd rather get some comments once everyone has seen the pics. Tony |
