Allow myself to introduce ...Er ... my...self.

Sorry for the Austin Powers rip-off.

I have been in and out of the forum the last few days. I posted an introduction in the Welcome area, but this is the area I will spend most of my time so I wanted to say hi.

My name is Dan and I live in El Dorado, Kansas. I recently acquired a '66 C10 LWB. I was sick watching it deteriorating in my Father-In-Law's backyard. Eventually, I talked him out of it. To boot, I traded straight across for my 85 F*** F250 extended cab 4X4 with a 460 CID BB and a 4 speed. I only paid $750 for the F***. Both are in need of a lot of work.

Anyway, the 66 is a LWB pretty close to stock except for the steel floor welded in the bed and an engine swap. I am not sure what engine was put in, but I think it is a 230 CID. It is an I6 with 3 on the tree.

The body is rough. My FIL attempted some body work that doesn't look terribly bad on the surface, but will have to be taken out to be done right.

My ultimate plans for this truck is to build it with a mild street rod package for my son to enjoy when he is old enough. He is eight now so I have a few years and I will need them. I am sure he will be in the garage with me through the entire process along with his three year old sister. The 15 year old daughter wants the truck as it is, but she is stuck with the Geo Metro.

Back to the truck, I am pretty resourceful and there isn't much I can't do if I set my mind to it. My brother owns an automotive machine shop and a family friend bought Dad's welding and fabrication shop for little more than a song, so I have some help available if needed.

At any rate, I wanted to say hi and to let you know that I will be asking a few questions as I go and maybe give a few answers when possible.

Here is a pic of the truck from last night. This is the "good" side.

Nice truck. I have two c-10's. A 63 & 64 (you guessed that, huh?) and your's is in better start-up condition than either of mine when I got them. That's half the fun, working on them.

Welcome to the site man. What the hell is up with welding a steel plate in the bed.The PO of my truck did the same thing, then put astro turf in to boot. The turf went but that horrible steel plate is still there.
Nice little start you got there eitherway. Enjoy

Re: Allow myself to introduce ...Er ... my...self.

Thanks for the gracious welcomes!

I don't know about the steel plate bed. I may scrap the entire bed for a replacement that is in better shape.

I also found that the lower front fender has been "mended" with a piece of rolled tin, rivets, and bondo. This wouldn't be too bad if the tin would have been made to match the original fender.

I have found a donor truck that is about to go to the crusher. It has a good hood and I think there are some other good parts. I didn't have time to look over it too much the other day. It looks like a 283 CID, but it is wasted from years in the field or barn. Piles of crap on top of the engine.

My truck does drive. The engine is fairly fresh. The tranny has a bad first gear, but still rolls. It clanks in first and reverse which from what I can find on the net is the tell-tale sign of a chipped/broken gear. I am looking for a replacement. My brother was supposed to go look at a pile of Saginaw 3 speeds the other day. He probably wouldn't tell me if he found one as he is a circle track racer and goes through a ton of these each racing season. I hope he shares one though.

Again, thanks for the welcome. I look forward to getting to know all of you on the boards and maybe at some meets.

I know a few folks from the Eureka area. I work with at least half a dozen women from over that way. Sorry we didn't get to meet before you moved.

Re: Allow myself to introduce ...Er ... my...self.

I think all boys like to work on trucks.. My boy likes to help me when I go work on the truck. He even puts on some gloves like his dad.. Welcome here and I am sure you will have fun with your project. My son just turned 5. We used to ride in the truck together and he is always asking me to go for a ride in it but now he just says "We have to work on the truck so we can go for a ride again". I think he is going to love the BB...
