Help buying posi unit.

I need some help figuring out which model I need from Moser. I need to specify spline and carrier.
http://www.moserengineering.com/Page...eatonposi.html

I've got a 12 bolt rear diff and according to their website the 12 bolt truck rear diffs only came with 30 spline. Is that accurate?

I did the "spin the tire and count the revolutions of the drive shaft" test and got 17 in 10 which I think means [(17*0.1)*2]=3.4. According to the Moser sight again, the ratios from 2.76 to 3.42 use the 3 series carrier.

That should mean I need a 3 series carrier and 30 spline unit. Am I right?

Re: Help buying posi unit.

12bolts had 30 spline axles. Make sure you get the truck version.

I deal with Randys Ring and Pinion also.

Lightbulb Re: Help buying posi unit.

Here's what im running in my truck there's no set up required just install it and haul @ss!

You can run allmost any gear set and you can get them from Jegs or Summit.

There made by Richmond Gear.

I'v had mine about 10 yr's and i love it, and no problems at all only maintenance is if you change your rear end oil also no special friction additives are required.

Heres a exploded view of it.

Don't mean to thread jack but i have some stock 3.73 gears from my 01 Silverado and I'm wondering if they'd fit in my 83 sierra? Theyre both 10 bolt.

I just saw an ad for this today and was wondering about how well it worked and how loud it was. Sounds like what I am looking for. Something I can install myself.

Thumbs up Re: Help buying posi unit.

It does make some faint ratcheting noise when you make turns but i only hear it when im going real slow and the radio is low.

But that is normal for this set up.

that is true.

but they are better then any clutch type set up. you give it some gas and they are locked. i run 295-50-15 and it does squeal my tires in a tight parking lot. i can get in and out of places that most 2wdrive cant go. i live on a hill and when my grass is wet it will pull right out with out spinning a tire.

Re: Help buying posi unit.

Could you guys clarify which model you're using? I checked http://www.powertrax.com and there is a difference between the one Stepper showed the diagram of (Powertrax Traction System) and the one bigblock79 was referring to (Lock-Right Locker). I'm wondering if it's worth it to pay the higher pricetag for the Powertrax.

You have the Lock-Right Locker? They also make the one that 87 Stepper showed the picture of.
