Any other Yoopers here?

If you dont know what a yooper is, then you arent one. Im a transplant from Husker land, the big red state with a lousy football coach. York area originally now near Marquette.

I live in the land of mega rust, apparently we get all the rust that doesnt happen in Arizona and New Mexico. About a mile from Lake Superior with the huge snow piles all winter. Who needs AC up here? Its like Canada and the indigenous yoopers kinda talk like the Canadians.

Ok, so about the trucks. Have a 76 swb 2wd with a 454, 700R4, 3.73 posi 12 bolt, lowered and it pulls the trailer and chases parts. Just did a cheap paint job on this spring to make it more presentable for another winter.

Next is a 79 Blazer 4x4, its really rough, got it for free. Its the next truck project after a couple cars are done. The diffs, TC, and suspension are all rebuilt, so I couldnt see scrapping it, it just needs a ton of sheetmetal, and an engine. Its getting a 400 sbc possibly with Vortec heads, havent decided on the top end and cam yet.

Then another swb 2wd 88 that hasnt been driven in the winter up here, its surprisingly rust free. The 4.3 is on its way out, and will probably be replaced with an EFI small block. Repaint it, add some tunes, wheels and tires and its the summer mover.

Then I have the old plow truck, also got it free. its an 89 4x4, he 700 needs rebuilt, the 305 is tired, and the brake lines are gone and the body is rusted pretty bad. If pushed for a winter vehicle this one could be going in less than a week.

Ad in a bunch of old muscle cars and its a veritable junk yard here. Mostly Pontiacs with a few evil Fords, and a pair of F150s that were picked up cheap.

No I am not independently wealthy, just been collecting $500 and less cars for 25 years. Mostly I have beaters, but now that I am done with my military time I can concentrate on getting some of them running. I was USAF Air Transportation, we loaded cargo planes. Fun job with plenty of deployments and trips around the world.

Unrelated to the USAF I am also a certified master tech, been to votech school for automotive, and self taught body work and painting. So I dont have to pay anyone to do anything for me, just buy the parts. I do however farm out machine work because I dont have the equipment to machine blocks and turn cranks. Its nice in some ways, but things get done only as fast as I do them.

Right now the shop is busy with a 71 Mustang and a 67 Cougar getting ground up rebuilds, so the 76 and 88 are the only trucks running.

Anyway, thats enough about me. Its good to find this place so I can get ideas for my stuff, and maybe pick up some parts and knowledge from you.
