maximum frustration (coolant gage)HELP!
I started off with a gage that read to low. It read between 100 and the first mark. I checked the wiring the gage and figured that the sending unit must be going bad. So I replaced it and now the gage reads to high. Does anyone know what the OHM range the gage is supposed to read?

You may have a light sender or emission switch instead of a gauge sender....

Re: maximum frustration (coolant gage)HELP!
I found a couple of references online that show a 240-33 ohm range on the sensor for a 0-280 degree temp gauge. I'm not sure if stock GM gauges use the same type of sensor.

Re: maximum frustration (coolant gage)HELP!
Well here is the latest: I used my V.O.M. Meter and check the unit that read low the reading was approx. 3.710K Ohms I checked the unit that ran high and it read 2.935K Ohms. So I went to the dealer and bought one and it reads 3.410K Ohms. I haven't had a chance to install it but I'm sure it will be OK. I guess the commercial was right use only GM parts. I spent 9.00 and change for the AutoZone part and 36.00 and change for the GM, but it will work. So the 9.00 part saved me no money and cost me a lot of time.

Re: maximum frustration (coolant gage)HELP!
I agree with your final assessment. I bought from Auto Zone and the gauge at least works now, but is a bit low on Temp, I suspect. GM Parts are the way to go. I always ask for any discounts just about every place I go. I asked the local Chevy dealer here if they supported the company I worked for and they said , YES, we have a discount for you. Never hurts to ask. Paid the taxes.
That guage is not easy to service and makes a bit of a mess when you uncork it. I changed mine out since I had the inner fenders out for paint. I hate to do things TWICE. LBJ |
