Well, I just picked up my Christmas gift to my self.....
A you can probably tell from the following write up, I do not know much about engines other than I like them to run. Anyway, I am trying to do a very correct restoration and I was dead set on using the original 402, but my mechanic (Brian Teal) finally talked me into letting him do a 454( I will just hold on to the original block).
So when someone pops the hood it will look like a stock BB down to the firewall markings and frame markings ect. The only major noticeable difference ( I hope ) will be the GM cast high-rise Holly intake and carburetor. The good stuff will be on inside. The block was bored .60 over so I guess it will be a 468ci. It has closed chambered heads, forged flat top pistons, L-88 valves, cam, ect. Like I said, I don’t know much about engines or how many Ponies it will put out, but I know it will run like a scalded ape and still look stock enough to keep me happy . My biggest concern is that the stock air breather will fit on a Holly carb. I don’t have the carb yet, so I cant test it for sure yet but was assured that it would. DOES ANYBODY KNOW FOR SURE IF IT WILL FIT? Anyway, I cant wait to get it mounted on the frame along with the transmission and drive shaft. Then I won’t like too much to have the rolling chassis finished …………….…Jason

Should not be any problem if you use the factory spacer.

Re: Well, I just picked up my Christmas gift to my self.....
Am no expert on factory air cleaners, but I am definitely a proponent of 454's in Chevy pickups.
I just replaced a non-original 66 396 in my 69 short fleet with a 454. It's got a Comp Magnum cam, TRW slugs, Edelbrock Heads and Intake and a Holley Carb. Should be in the 450HP+ arena and 500+lf ft of torque. I love the combo. Plenty of grunt for that "push you back into your seat" feeling I enjoy so much. Hope'e you're just as happy with your decision to upgrade to the 468. Keeping the original engine around for a numbers matching swap-out, should you ever decide to go that way, is a good thing as well. Congrats.
