grill and headlights......

i was curious what if anything people have done custom for a grill and headlights. i was thinking about maybe putting dual square headlights like on the newer chevy's, like in the 80's i believe? but then cover them up with a mesh material like the pic below. im not saying im gonna do that its just an idea. i do know i want to do something different from the original. any and all ideas and welcomed and appreciated.
thanks,
John

Re: grill and headlights......

Right now my 64 has two rectangular headlights, like a 70's-80's square body has. They look pretty bad. I don't have a grille at the moment either. I'll be switching to round. Do you have more pics of that mesh grille? I kinda like that.

Hell no on the square headlights.

See if you can figure out what was done to this grille... It's also going to have 8" round lights from a Jeep Liberty.

Re: grill and headlights......

Hey Frizzle, do you have any more pictures of this truck? Im particularly interested in the fender mods that are done to it. If i had one gripe about the 60-66 trucks, it would be that the front fender opening is to big and requires large rims and tires to get the tucked look. Looks as if the new fender openings are from a 67-72? Sorry i dont mean to steal the thread.

Re: grill and headlights......

Frizzle Fry,

Ok so Jeep liberty lights I got that one figured out, can't wait to see it.

However, in the picture of your truck (which is a fav) the front bumber.. Slpit to widen it as to not let the body contact the ground when Droped? Just wondering why you split it... This is all new to me so it might be obvious to some... Not so much to me...

Thanks....

I do a lot of photochopping of the ideas that flow through my head; such as the 67-72 arches etc... So I was playing around with the front bumper position and found that it looked better when tucked in more (moved down/back). So I did that by modding the front frame horns. Then I noticed that bottom of the front bumper was still higher than the bottom of the rockers.

Modern sports cars and "upgrade packaged cars ie. Roush Mustangs) use the same technique to get that hi-performance look; move the chin or front air dam down. So I photoshoped it and liked the effect.

The plan is to fill that section back in with material and maybe do some fogs or another idea I have.

Re: grill and headlights......

Back to grilles and headlights: Since no one seems to have figured out what I did to mine (or cared... )... I flipped the center section to make that smiley face into a more serious look. Not as friendly as the early corvette grille, but then that's the point:

Re: grill and headlights......

Cool bumper and grille mod. Like to see the grille with the Chevrolet insignia in there. I had the bumper off my 61 the other night to paint it and thought leaving the bumper off cutting the frame horns off and building a filler panel between the fenders and below the grille surround might look good. But then, said to self "can't finish all the projects you got started. Don't start another" painted the bumper and put it back on.

Re: grill and headlights......

HA Ha I studied the heck out of it and never saw it..I paid close attention to the headlight rings/buckets and never caught the center section upside down.

What are you going to do with the center grille? try and rebuild original with reverse hoop tp match the grille? It looks good, let me know if you reform the grille...interested to see how it turns out, unless your going more custom...

Re: grill and headlights......

Thanks guys. It definately needs everything behind it blacked out. I'm actually thinking of removing the "hoop" from the aluminum insignia and just mounting the C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T with hidden mounts so it just floats there.

Re: grill and headlights......

frizzle that grille looks bad a$$, i like it. i cant wait to see the whole thing finished. you got anything new done?

back to grilles, i think im gonna copy the grille that PRO did on his, but im still thinking of putting dual square headlights behind it. i agree it looked weird in that modded grille earlier but this will be behind the grille. idk, ill think on it for a while, its gonna be a while before im to that point. lol
Thanks,
John

Would be killer to relocate the turn signals down there and shave that hood. I mean, everything else isn't stock except the turn signals.
Though I'm sure you get more fog up there than we do here in the south (till you get into the mountains) so fogs would probably add a lot more functionality to the build.

We had some serious fog today!

I'm not a huge fan of the shaven turn sigs on these (seems to remove the basic character of the design), but have played around with this look for the hood (another photoshop):
