Wheel/Tire question.

I'm putting 35 12.50 16" tires on my blazer with 4" of lift. The wheel will have around 4.5" of backspacing. Can I go with a 16x10 or will I have to stay with a 16x8? Will the wider wheel make it rub?

When I initially lifted my 69 K20 I went with a 4" lift and had that size tire on a 16 x 8 rim with 4.5" backspacing. When I bought the rim it was recommended to not go with a 10" wide rim. I didn't have any rubbing but I never had the front axle flexed out - probably would have had rubbing if flexed out.

In the pic thats in my avatar I had 35 15.50 15 on 15x10 wheels. The tires were thornbirds and the big outer lug just bumped the bottom edge of the front fender when turning. I'm not going to have this in any real 4x4 situations. Maybe the occasional 1-3 rated trail but nothing to incure body damage, lol...

Big is cool and bigger is better except when it comes to tires in that there is a point of diminshing return. Each size upgrade will cost you economy in terms of gas mileage and handling. It can also cost you in wet traction as big rubber can hydroplane pretty easy. Be sure you know what you are getting into before you spend the big bucks.

I'm running 35s with 16x10s on my 71 K10 with a 4" lift with no rubbing on moderate trail situations.

I have 6" lift with 37" Swampers on 15 x 12. I had to grind a tiny bit of my caliper on the front axle. Other than that, 12" wide wheel looks and works great.
