73-87 stock radio question....

all,
i am wondering if a stock "later" model (73-87) radio would fit in a 72 stock radio opening without modification? i know there are aftermarket radios available. i am mainly just curious? i have a stock radio opening & am wanting to keep the radio area stock looking. any clues or information would be much appreciated....

thanks!!!

Check the spacing on the knobs. The issue will be whether or not the body of the radio will physically fit in the space behind the opening in the dash, which will NOT be the same size as the face of the unit.

i think the face of the stereo got bigger right after these trucks came out, and stayed igger through the 70's.

Re: 73-87 stock radio question....

i think i understand what you guys are saying... but i thought that in the 80's & 90's the aftermarket radios were all the same size? leading me to believe that a radio from those era's would "fit" in our trucks as well??
... i don't know....
