my weekend project..... pics finally!!!!!!
so this past weekend i decided to take my truck down to bare metal and prep and paint her.
i did it the cheapskate way and spent about 80 bucks on materials including pin striping tape, painters tape and paper, paint, and sanding disks.... not bad! i figured about 150 for a rattle can job but i came in way under so i did what any of us would have done...... spent the rest on beer! any how it took me the better of a day and a half to get all the paint off, and doing some minor body work. then i got into painting it, yep good ol' rattle can spray paint!!!! 2 bucks a can at osh!!! and i bought one of those adapters that turns it into a trigger handled sprayer- 3 bucks and worth every cent!!! took my time, sanding between every coat and managed to get 7 coats of paint on her! it came out 100 times better than i could have dreamed! i'm real proud of the scallops and pin striping.... next im gonna paint on some wide white walls to finish the look! tell me what you think!!!!!!!!!

Re: my weekend project..... pics finally!!!!!!
no, really!
hotrodders in the 50's and 60's used to paint on their white walls not buy em... buying new ones is real expensive, paint is cheaper! its rubberized paint... i used it on my chopper and my harley bobber, you cant buy an 18x250mm white wall rear tire.... nobody makes one! so i painted em, it looks awesome and you wouldn't know unless i told you.

Re: my weekend project..... pics finally!!!!!!
Man, that thing is simply bad ass. I love it! the paint turned out excellent; the perfect amount of satin, in my opinion.
the scallops add alot; something you don't see on these trucks. and as for whitewalls...well. i like whitewalls. if you like 'em go for it man. what're you out, except the paint to try, eh? once again, killer look. -Sam.

Re: my weekend project..... pics finally!!!!!!
I think painting the tires will lead to premature dry rot too.

Re: my weekend project..... pics finally!!!!!!
i understand the oldtimers used to paint them. but they never put whitewalls on 60's model trucks. i would say kinda stick closer to the era of the truck so it doesnt look mixed mach. you know, just my 2pennies. i think your spot on with what youve got homie!

Re: my weekend project..... pics finally!!!!!!
I want to see the paint in a year and a half - looks nice now, but I have a feeling you're going to get to do it all over again. I'm not sure cheapy OSH paint will hold up like an automotive paint will. But, hey, I hope I'm wrong. Looks real nice, you did a great job.

Re: my weekend project..... pics finally!!!!!!
For what you have in it, you can afford to redo it next spring if needed. I think it looks great. I'm not a scallop fan, or of the wide whites. It is your pickup though. Make it look cool to you. Underhood is awesome.
