This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
OK, so I have a 66 LWB with the 250-6 in it. as I was backing it off the trailer the battery fell over so I shut it down and put the battery back in the correct location but now the truck won't get any power into it at all. I've replaced the battery, starter and solenoid and still absolutely nuttin'
Any help would be great or if someone has a wiring diagram or ANYTHING that would be great. All I can find is an assembly manual someone has listed on Ebay but I would just as soon not pay 150 or so for the book. Thanks all! |

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
does it have a fuseable link in between the starter and the ignition, if you shorted the system, that would be the first to go. I have burned those out by accidentally crossing a wrench on the terminals.

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
and if that is not the problem, get a test light and start chasing where you do/don'thave power. with wiring you can use te process of elimination to find the problem.

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
fuseable links suck. if you find one that has the insulation rather hard and crispy with a bulge somewhere in it then that's your suspect. personally if i were to replace a fuseable link i would change it to an inline fuse. also i would check the continuity and resistance on both the positive and negative battery cables. usually when i have some sort of electrical problem i usually try to eliminate the wiring as the cause rather than the part its self. but my thoughts would be battery cables. my guess is those cables were probably on there since the flinstone age and you may have broken wires in the cables. i would check those first then go fuseable link hunting. i have a color coded diagram if you would like me to forward it to you

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
Check the body ground as well, if it pulled off when the battery fell out, could be a source.

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I would very much like a diagram if possible. Also, I replaced the battery cables today and nuttin' happened. I think I can find a witch doctor aroiund here somewhere to lend a hand.
Also, what are some of the more popular mods for these things? I was considering just wringing every ounce of performance out of that poor little six but I also have a 396 and th400 in the garage that I'm looking for something to make all obnoxiuos. Are these things really worth anything restored to bone stock? I don't want to go getting all crazy and screwing up a nice truck otherwise. Thanks fellas! |

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
And not to make myself out to be too much of a toolbox but where geographically should I be looking for the ignition module? Also, this truck has a brake controller in it that as far as I can see is integral to the wiring. Does anyone else have one of these?

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
bypass all your ignition wires and either buy a stater gun from parts house or cross the terminals on the starter itself. If you have juice to the starter it will turn over. You may have fried the switch itself.
Latr, I hope you get it fixed. |

These trucks are worth more with all the high performance stuff in them. I saw a 1966 C10 LWB on Ebay tonight for $2000. It looked to be worth more then that. With all the high performance stuff in them, they sell for well over $20,000 or at least thats what people are asking for them. I've only paid $400 and $1500 for my 2 but they need some major work. Since the one was a box-of-rust I decided to look into a 4X4 to replace the current frame and boost the value a little bit. I'll never want to get rid of them though.

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
Isn't it funny how these "simple" vehicles can still drive us nuts sometimes.
I would get a Digital Volt/Ohm meter and check to see that you have 12.4 volts to the starter. You should have 12.6 at the battery and a little drop to the starter is ok, but not ideal. Or you could just feel if the wires are getting hot when you hold it in the crank postion. |

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
I've decided toi part ways with this particular truck. I am getting one from a fella that already has a big block in it and it's a 3/4 ton. My plan is to drop a 1966 Alaskan camper I found on the back of one of these here pick'em up trucks and tow around my little 1965 14' runabout.
Call me corny but I think it would be cool! So, if you know someone around the seattle tacoma area that wants the truck I'll sell it to them for 250 if they contact me through the owners club.

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
When I short across the terminals on the starter the battery starts to make a sizzling sound. It's quite entertaining.

Re: This damn truck!!!!!!!!!!
OK, so now I feel like a horses ass. I went out and "hotwired" it and hooked the coil directly to the positive post of the battery and took my screwdriver and shorted the starter and wouldn't you know it, it fired right up and ran like a champ. So, if anyone has a wiring diagram I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks very much for all the assistance guys!
