air box removal ?
Has anyone removed the air box on the front of the cab? Other than the 50,000 spot welds you would need to drill out is there an easier way to remove it?
Thinking of removing mine to get down in there, fix some small rust issues before they get to large and give it all a good coat a rust preventative paint. Any thoughts, ideas, tips?

It's actually part of the cab, the air box that is mounted to the cab, it sits under the cowl. The fan motor for the heater mounts to it. It lets in fresh air to the foot vents.

Since that panel is spot welded in "a million" places I don't think I would be considering removing it. I would consider using a media blaster or similar to get down into that cowl area and clean it as good as I could then make what repairs are necessary and seal it. If it looks really bad in there you might need to be on the lookout for another cab anyway.

From what I can see it's not really bad, YET. It does look like there is a lot of surface rust going down into where you can't reach and I do have a couple of pin holes way down low on the side. Kind of behind the foot vent. I was just thinking that I have the cab off right now and might as well fix it rather than just paint the cab and still have an area that may come back to bite me in the future.

What about cutting a hole in the sides in front of the door hinges. Cut it big enough so you can get in there and work. Then when you have everything cleaned up the way you wanted, take the panel you cut out and weld it back into place. Seems to me that'd be easier than drilling a re-welding a ton of spot welds

There was a thread on here that showed how to clean it out and paint it, I will try and find it.

Cut and reweld what you cut out.

Thanks guys. I am thinking that may be the best route to. I will probably cut out the section just in front of the door hinge and get to it that way. It's really not that bad yet and now is the time to fix it while I have the cab off.
