Undercoating a blessing or curse????
I have been gathering parts and different types of paints needed to detail my engine compartment on my 86 C10.The prior owner had at one time long ago had the truck sprayed with undercoating.I mean everywhere. They drilled holes all over the cab.Plugged of course. But it may be easier to replace the frt. inner fenders than try and clean them. The fire wall is over a 1/4 thick in places. Its great having a rust free truck. But man.And There really in no trying to paint over it and it look good.I have looked at the hammered finish paints and wrinkle. But I want a nice semi gloss compartment.Anybody have tips. This also gives a reason to post pics

I would take it over rust any day of the week... That said undercoating can really mess up your truck and cause rust. If there was rust to start with and it is sprayed over or when it starts peeling and road salt get stuck in there. To remove it try a heat gun and puddy knife it is real slow going tho.

Re: Undercoating a blessing or curse????
Mine is the same exact way. The stuff is on the inside of the hood, fenders, on the firewall, wheel wells, under the cab, bed and on the frame. Im grateful that I have a rust free truck but when it comes time to do a frame off resto I have the feeling I will be working my fingers to the bone to try to get this stuff off.
I had my buddy get one of his employees blast a pair of inner fenders last year that had this stuff on them and the guy was cussing the whole time, it took him 5 times as long as it would have otherwise. It may indeed be easier to just buy new inners. You could take the opportunity to paint the engine compartment side and maybe rhino liner the bottom.
