Hello,

I've just lowered my 72 SWB fleetside (4.5/6) and noticed when accelerating the truck vibrates a bit. Could this be a problem with the driveshaft angle, as well as the center driveline bearing? Anyone experience this problem? Has anyone changed their driveline bearing to the newer polyurathane bearing by CPP?

Do you need to phase all 2 piece driveshafts? My 67 K10 has a 2 piece drive shaft. It is a corse spline (manual transmission) and if I rotate it 4 splines like the Haynes manual says it is basically rotated 180 deg IIRC.

all 2+ piece driveshafts have to be put together the same way they were ballanced or they WILL vibrate. but if all you did was lower it, the rear driveshaft may be bottomed out/too short. the factory style carrier bearing is a good design/exelent with a little bracing.

I can't explain it... when you slide the second shaft onto the first, you have to make sure the ears are in line with each other.

Thats what I always thought was funny. My Haynes manual says to line them up and then rotate the rear shaft 4 splines to the left. From what I remember it is 180 deg off from where you started. I have never had any vibrations but have plenty of slop. Im not sure if my slop is the slip joint or the trans/transfer connector. I just never figured out the phasing or had any problems on my 4x4. I kind of assumed it was a auto tranny fine spline thing?

You said you just lowered it 6", did you put in an adjustable track bar? If not your driveshaft angle is probably of to the side and that could be causing your problem.

I do have an adjustable traction bar that I installed. I will double check to see if the rearend is centered correctly.

Traction bar or panhard bar?
Also I have been using the poly carrier bearing (from inline drive) for a few years, factory replacements would only last me a few months.

Traction Bar is not the same as a Panhard Rod. One panhard rod keeps the rear end in place from side-to-side. Traction bars are located on each side of the rear end and their intent is to maintain traction under "hard" acceleration conditions. A coil spring rear end will need a panhard rod, but it may not need traction bars. Leaf spring rearends don't use panhard rods, but may need traction bars.

i did install a panhard bar from cpp (my mistake). It sounds like its best to change the center bearing to the newer polyuretane version. Also, I may need to center the rearend since its lowered. Is there a technique to centering the rearend?
