I promised myself I wouldn't buy another truck till I finished one of my tractor projects or my 79 GMC 1 ton...but I have gone and bought another! 1983 Chevrolet C10, body and interior needing minor work but overall both are in good shape, 350 engine/700r4 transmission, runs and drives but the engine has a knock. 31 inch tires, new dual Flowmaster exhaust. I don't think I did too bad, I paid $600 for it. The question is now, what to do? I don't need two trucks, so I am thinking sell/part out my 79 since it is in worse shape and would be a pig on fuel, and put the money into this new truck. What do you all think? And yeah I know, pictures, pictures, pictures...I will get some up tomorrow.

Sounds like a good deal. And you said it "pictures, pictures........"

Do you plan to work it or just drive around and make it nicer? sounds like a good plan if this is is better shape and you do not need a 1 ton.

I know, I know, this thread needs pictures, but I have yet to take any. I got home from school, went right to work on it, and just came inside as it is getting dark. Tomorrow for sure, I promise! Yeah I do plan on focusing on this new truck instead of the 1 ton, since it is in much better shape and although a 1 ton would be handy, it's just not economical for me at this point. I will be driving the 83 and slowly making it better. It needs a few minor things to get through safety though, like a rear left turnsignal, and I want to get rid of that knock as soon as possible. On a positive note, the knock is much less noticeable than I originally thought. While it knocks on startup and for a couple of minutes afterwards, it seems to disappear after the truck has warmed up. Any thoughts on this?

check the flexplate, bought my brothers 68 chevelle with a 327 and a motor knock, turns out the flexplate was cracked all through the center, still started and everything. Probably not it, but doesnt hurt to check.

. You sound a lot like me, I've got 2 tractors to finish up, a plow, and now 2 trucks. The projects just keep piling up!

could be a lazy oil pump.. change out the oil and see if that helps it and maybe pull a valve cover to see if there is all kinds of crud in there .. if there is its a good chance there is crud in the oil pan and on the screen may pay to drop the pan at that point and clean it up and out maybe change the oil pump
ive done that on trucks before but in all honesty, usually if its that far gone the motor wont last too much longer from the previous owner's abuse
its nine thirty on a sunday AM here lol its gotta be either the same time or earlier where you are.. plenty of daylight to get them pics now

Finally, here are the pics. I would have got some yesterday but it was pouring rain/snowing, and the shop and garage are now so full of projects I couldn't get a decent angle on it inside. Don't be fooled by the sunshine, it snowed early this morning, and right now there is a very cold wind which is dropping the temp to around 2 degrees Celsius.

Here are my plans for the truck:

Fix the wiring mess left by the PO (he cut the harness and improvised a bunch of stuff...now the rear left turn signal light, reverse light and brake light don't work, most of the guages don't work, and the electric choke is wired through the heater

Take care of the engine knock

Fix up the body and paint the truck (it only needs minor stuff such as one cab corner, couple of small rust spots, one minor dent pulled)

It does have some minor rust, but it has been undercoated since new so nothing major.

Thanks for the comments guys. I have a temp permit on the truck right now, and had it out cruising today. Already had a couple of people give me the thumbs up/wave and another guy in an old GMC honked

...and yes window tint is on the way, for some reason when they tinted only the rear window and the driver's side main window were done

. I've finally decided what to do with the projects situation. The 79 in the background of one of the pics unfortunately has to go, since I don't have the money, time, or storage space for two trucks. I'm going to try and sell it complete, but if that fails I will part out everything I can and scrap the rest.

Yeah I'm really disappointed I have to get rid of the 79 but like I said I don't have the time or money for two trucks, and storage is a bit of an issue....plus I am heading off to university this year, so I'll be away and won't get any time to work on it.
