Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
I have been talking to Jamie at Thorley about mid-length headers for lowered trucks so they don't come down as far as stock below the frame.
How much interest is there for a shorty or mid length for the '67-'72? I see a lot of people asking "Do they hang below the frame" in different for sale threads so I'm assuming it would be a nice add |

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
I agree! I could use a set for my '47 since it rides on a modified '65 C-10 frame.

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
I am also really interested and in! but i want BBC headers.
and since you are talking with him, I think it would be a good idea to make them a nice size, at least 2" primaries going into a collector that flanges up to 3" pipe. this way there is actually some good performance out of it! there is one brand out there that I know of that makes mid length.. but they are small tube headers. keep us updated, I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
I have a set of shorty block huggers in my 65 sbc but I am thinking of going to the mid lenght's but there expensive. I like my huggers you cant see any of the exhaust from under the truck below the frame. I had a set of headman headers on it before and they hung alittle low.

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
I bought a pair from ECE and like them... kind of hard to see
"...Early Classic is proud to offer the highest quality, American-made Small Block Headers available for 1967-'72 GM small block trucks. These new mid-length headers are swept rearward and dump below the firewall eliminating ground clearance problems for lowered trucks. These 16 gauge, mandrel bent beauties come with the only patented leak-free flange on the market. As an added bonus, a ceramic thermal barrier coating has been applied inside and out for years of trouble-free performance. (Pair)" Last edited by Mondo; 04-14-2008 at 04:16 AM. |

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
well, we should be talking about BB! as there are 47,000 different SB headers out there, I'm sure there are a few that will fit or fit with minor tweaking.
us BBC guys are in a good need of some large tube mid lengths!

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
YES...I agree. At this point all I see are Sanderson Block Huggers for lowered BB trucks. I don't want my pipes below the frame. On the highway that might be fine but in the back woods off the beaten path...not a good idea.

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
Well, if you are talking about SB, don't get the Dynomax coated one's for our year. They hang below the frame about 2-3 inches. Of course if your truck isn't lowered, they are fine.

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
If your talking SB I'm in. I bought a set of Sumitt shorty's and they're junk, IMO... I didn't even put them on. I only paid 90 bucks for 'em, the paint was already peeling off when I took them out of the box..
Yeah, so a long answer longer..... Yes, I"m in!!!

The problem is these headers need to be made for manual transmission applications. The raer tube just needs to run slightly forward, then down lower than the z-bar.The current Doug`s headers will work, but just hang a bit low by the time you run pipe off the collector. Shorties don`t do enough over manifolds to justify their use,IMO.You need length.I`d like to see a mandrel-bent 3" pipe to connect to the collector that tapers to 2.5".

Re: Headers for lowered trucks...looking for feedback
I am talking about SB. Most of the ones I've looked at leave you with a downward angle that makes it tough to keep from dropping below the frame
