Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
Well, after hours of grinding the rivits off the back for the C notches, I finally completed the lowering job. 4&1/2 inches in the front and 6 inches in the rear. Having problems with the drive shaft bearing...I think I will need to purchase a polyurethane unit. Otherwise...that's it. Still have tons of work to do. Any suggestions on wheel size. Was thinking 18 front and 20 rear.

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
Yeah, altitude adjustments always make a huge difference. Up for the 4x4's and down for the 2wd's. Looking good. The 18's and 20's will make it look like a totally new truck!

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
Add the center caps n trim rings to those stock rallys and you're good to go.

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
Man that looks great. When I lowered mine I kept tearing up the swing bearing. I wound up going to a one piece drive shaft. Maybe the polyurethane will work better I never tried one. I actually broke the bearing housing off. Good luck with it.

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
very nice! I want to do the same 4/6 lowering you did. Did you go with a kit, or just pieced together the parts?

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
Thanks guys. I'm a bit embarrassed about how dirty the truck is underneath. I'm planning on removing the bed and cleaning everything.
I actually purchased the kit from CPP. It included the dropped spindles, lowered springs front and back, relocation mounts for the rear shocks, 4 gas shocks, C-notch kit, adjustable panhard arm and some 1" lowering blocks. The C-notch kit is a very clean setup. In my opinion, it would be hard to make on your own, but I know people who have. Everything ran me about $800 at the Pomona swap meet. |

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
No shame in the way the truck looks now until you decide on wheels. I think it looks sweet as is. I wouldn't even put caps and rings on the rallys. Grunge trucks rule!

Wow. That was a nice deal! Looks good! My '71 needs the same thing, except my current budget says 2/2, cut front/block rear, lol.

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
What a difference! I'm kind of old fashion and I would go with 15's But I'm sure what ever decide on will look great.
Mine is 3.5/5 now, but I think i'm going to go with the 2 inch springs in the front. Ray

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
Here's a pic of my dad's truck. We lowered this one about 6 years ago. I think its a 3/5 drop. No C-notch...so it was much easier.

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
If you don't go with a one peice drive shaft, I would at least raise your carrier bearing up, that should help. Looks good, BTW

Re: Lowered my 72 Cheyenne
The truck looks great.I know what I`d do,at least until the cosmetics get attention,I`d get new whitewalls and run full wheelcovers.
