estimated MPG?
I am looking into buying a 1982 Chevy with an inline 6 and a 4 speed manual with od. I am wondering if anyone has/had a similar combination and what you were getting out of it for mpg. I am thinking it should be a suitable daily driver with that drivetrain combination.

Re: estimated MPG?
my 73 has a 6 cyl 4 speed no overdrive, granny, and I just checked my tankfull and got 12.3 mpg, back and forth short trips. that 0/d should get you better than that. bob

Re: estimated MPG?
My 82 3/4 with 250 and 3 on the tree got 15mpg. If you kept the top speed down and coasted up to the stops you could get 17. 3.43 gears, 245/75/16.5 radials.

Re: estimated MPG?
The overdrive gear is going to get your more mileage just on it's own. It was kind of a rare transmission in the early 80's so it's not very common but they do pop up from time to time. You should get 2-3 MPG over what people with 1:1 gear transmissions are getting.
