shaved door kit help? and where to find some bolts ???
guys I use the search option with no luck Is there a place that makes shaved door kits for our trucks or will I just have to do the universal route? what have you guys used? how did it look? likes and dislikes? ease of install? and what solenoid lbs should I use? any help un the matter would be helpful and pics of your rides would be awesome. also is there anyplace that is good to get bolts for our trucks (all) from interior to exterior. I only have a lowes and home depot none of the mom and pop stores that are usually good for these sort of things? thanks guys and if there is a post on these topics Im sorry for starting a new thread. Just point me to the right link
thanks guys chris

Re: shaved door kit help? and where to find some bolts ???
Check with Autoloc for the shaved door / remote entry kits. They use a 50 pound solenoid that should hold up fairly well with a crusty 40 year old door latch. I just saw an outfit today that has 60/lb. units, but for the life of me I can't remember who it was. If you want butter-smooth operation get hooked up with some power actuated "Bear-Claw" latches.....they're the shizznit fo' real !! Not cheap though.
Regarding the fasteners.....let your fingers to the walking and look for a "Fastenal" store in your area. If they are too far away they do have an e-store. Also McMaster-Carr is a good source too, but unless you're in the L.A. area- it's strictly mail order. For the more vehicle-specific fasteners most of the board vendors(LMC, GMCPauls, Brothers, Truck Shop, Classic Heartbeat, etc...) will carry them.

U can do a search on the forum about shaved doors & solenoids for info. It seems everyone thinks the larger (40-50lb)the solenoid the longer they last, our doors are heavy.

If you want to buy in bulk, you might find a Grainger.
Tractor Supply sells by the pound. It's much cheaper that way. About the only bolt I had trouble finding is the carriage bolt for the rad core support mounts (7/16 x about 2.5"). Napa had 'em. Last edited by 71tahoe; 04-25-2008 at 11:41 PM. |

also another option for the shaved door handle kit is Electric Life, i have heard from different people that have used their kits that they are very high quality and i think they might use the 60lb selenoids.

I have had success with Autoloc stuff too. As far as "factory style hardware" like bolts, u-nuts, etc. the is always http://www.kimballmidwest.com/
They have all kinds of that stuff, including hard to find interior plastic clips, upholstery fasteners, etc |

Re: shaved door kit help? and where to find some bolts ???
I got mine from www.customclassic.com - solenoids mounted directly to a set of repro latches. Makes installation a snap. Now I just need to get them wired, so I can tell how they work.
